Along with nearby city Bossier City Parish, Shreveport serves as the trade and culture center for the Ark-La-Tex area. Some cultural events that take place in Shreveport is The Krewe of Centaur Mardi Gras Parade, Aseana festival, and the highland jazz and blues festival. There are many more cultural events that take place all year round throughout Shreveport. The Krewe of Centaur Mardi Gras Parade was organized in 1991, by the common goals of building a better community and the pursuit of good family fun.

Patriots’ Day, the annual celebration of the events of April 19, 1775 has just concluded. Minute Man National Historical Park schedules numerous events over three consecutive weekends of events often called Patriots’ Month. Along with National Park Week, April kicks off the park season with this unique Massachusetts event. In Concord, the town turns out to celebrate the beginning of the running battle at Meriam’s Corners on the east side of town. One thing that i learn about the day of the dead was that is was a Mexican holiday. It's a holiday that falls on November 1 and 2 of each year. The holiday is a blend of pre Hispanic indigenous beliefs and Spanish Catholic beliefs. Other thing was the holiday focuses on gathering of the family and friends to pray for remember friends and family and members who died. Our similar celebrations in our American culture are have Christmas, Halloween, and Thanksgiving.

It really shows how our community comes together for these times. We have so many holidays where we have fully dedicated events to cater to that specific day. Martyrs Day is a day when everyone goes to the capitol and lights a candle to remember the soldiers that lost their lives. We also have Women’s Day which is a little more festive where there are actual performances. My friends and I are usually one of the performers where we do a traditional dance in our cultural clothing and hairstyles.
