Diagnostic essay What makes a great leader, great? A great leader can be made out of many different ideas and opinions and not everyone will agree that any leader is a great leader. Men and women have always been put into different positions of power. That doesn’t mean that every single one of them has been a great leader to their followers or follower because being in control of a group of people doesn’t make you a great leader. You can be a leader of millions or a leader of one, but how you use your power over people and places under your control will determine what kind of leader you are. Leadership is being in a position as a leader that guides and directs people and things (i.e. dogs) in any path they chose to do so. Many believe that leaders are born which there are always exceptional people in the world but leaders are also created especially with humans. Humans have always evolved and learned from each other throughout history there has always been leaders, kings, queens, so it is nothing new for humans to have an instinct to looking at someone doing great things and want to follow in their path. You don’t get to decide whether you’re a good leader or not, your actions do and the people around you that follow in your path will know if you’re a good leader because they will feel like everything you do is the right thing. They will know how much you value them if you’re put into a leadership positon. Leaders are chosen by their peers or by their elders. As I said earlier leaders aren’t always born, leaders can be created by other great leaders and it is those great leaders that recognize the future leaders of whatever it is that they are in power of. There are many qualities that good leaders must possess in order to be able to maintain a group united and working together, whether it is a sports or any academic team or club. For example; football/volleyball, U.I.L/ National Honor Society, or even Spanish/Interact club. Leaders must be willing to pass on a positive influence and know when to take charge. They must begin to be role models to those they associate with on a daily basis.
Wherever human beings are accumulated together in large numbers, they need leadership. Even a school needs a principle to mentor and escalate the school’s rank. Armies need generals to lead them to a courageous victory. Civilians need governments, captains of industry and intellectual leaders of thought as well. However, There are characteristics common to most great leaders that can be picked out.
Leaders are the ones who make sure things get done. Most of the time in this world we live in, there are more followers than there are leaders. This could be the reason our world is so entirely messed up. There is almost nobody doing anything, or taking the initiative, to get the problems some have to deal with everyday, fixed. We need more leaders in this world to get these types of things started and fixed.
All of our great leaders had one thing in common. Leadership. All of our great leaders have a different approach. Leaders have to have great attitude, they have to know what they want, and they have to always be accepting of the truth. Being a leader doesn’t mean being a President or a Vice President, people like Harriet Tubman and Frederick Douglass made a huge impact on the abolitionist movement, and they were fugitive slaves!
What makes a leader? I believe a leader to be intelligent ,tough, and has the determination to achieve a goal. Having certain skills will have an impact on you being a trustable leader. Being selfless and caring are also characteristics. Malcolm X his birth name Malcolm Little is a fine a example of a leader and has most of these leadership qualities.
1. My philosophy of leadership is about collaboration and teamwork. Respecting and treating everyone the same, is key to supporting a good team atmosphere. I believe when a leader puts effort and care into assisting others, then their peers and followers will naturally want to support them. It is also important for a leader to recognize, that advocacy must never become so important that the critical elements of leadership are neglected (e.g. policy enforcement, command support, etc...).
A leader is someone you can look up to with admiration. A proper leader does not mislead the people that stand with them. They are open, honest, and responsible. They don’t hide their failures. They own up to their mistakes because that’s what leaders do.
What Makes an Effective Leader? There are leaders all around you and you probably did not even know it. A leader is a person who leads or commands a group, organization, or country. This could be parents, teachers, or the president of a country.

The book provides historically tested and proven principles of leadership. The prince has been described as a manual for those who want to win and retain power. While some may argue that leadership is an inherent trait in human, leaders are made, not born. Making a great leader out of a person is not just a matter of identifying the leadership traits, skill and talents of the individual, but harnessing the traits, develop them and eventually mastering how to be leader.

When looking back on history, some are successful and others are total failure. However, it is not easy to divide leaders into good ones and bad ones.
There are many different views and perceptions on leadership and what it exactly means. This is because there are many different types of leaders and many different views on them. But the basic meaning of leadership is an individual who can select the right group of followers and influence them through their distinct gifts, abilities, skills and knowledge. From my point of view , Leadership has more to it than I can possibly imagine. I define leadership as the art of enabling a group of people get to a specific destination. As a leader your main focus was to enable your followers lead theselves. As i think deeper i realise a person cannot choose to be a leader. I think a lot of the time people take on leadership positions without knowing.
