Week (1-3) For the story, American Fables (Ghost story), as the story involves a person named Eddie and a ghost (his former friend) Joe the Tommyknocker who troubles him until a lot until Eddie decides to return his five dollars. A prominent dialogue from the passage was "It 's about bloody time,". It was also one of the most important dialogues as it describes what Joe demanded from Eddie. A literary device that was used in this dialogue was diction. Diction is not just a writer 's choice of words it can include the mood, attitude, dialect and style of writing. The author of the story used diction to describe the dialogue as if he wanted, he could not have included the word “bloody”. The word “bloody” described that the ghost was very angry, while it was standing next to Eddie and looking at the money. As the story evolves a young boy falling in love with his neighbor, Mangan’s sister. He spends time watching her from his house and/or thinking about her. When he and the girl finally talk to each other, and she suggests that he should visit a bazaar called Araby, which she cannot attend. Then when the boy plans to go and purchase something for the girl, he arrives late and buys nothing. A Literary device that was used in this passage was irony. The boy falls in love in her, waits for her, and finally (after a long time) when they speak with each other and she suggests him to go to the bazaar, he does not bring anything for her. After all the time he spends focusing on her, he literally could not impress or make her happy which means they won’t likely be together. The hypocrisy of this situation is that the boy assumed it as a child’s play when he thought that she would not mind. He acted as a child when he is an adult. He did an idle work (pointless work), all the time and this makes him an immature
