After reading “Mermaid Fever,” the statement that I think this essay makes about societal attitudes is that people will react and behave very strangely to anything that is out of the ordinary. The narrator bases his essay on a public beach, located in a small town in Connecticut, and out of the blue, this teenage girl’s body was washed up under the tide line one summer night. After extensive scientific tests and examinations on the body, the news finally broke out that the girl was a mermaid. The girl was soon transferred to a local museum in town where she would be put on a glass display that will be open to the public. This news brought the whole city together, and people waited in line for hours just to observe this fond discovery.
Bethany woke up in the hospital. I believe that Bethany feels good about herself even though she has one arm .she is back surfing now and she is a pro. Bethany went swimming on Halloween and she went out in the water .Bethany was ready to hit the waves. Next Bethany got wiped off of her board and she was attacked .after the shark bit her it took off Bethany’s arm and, Bethany was bleeding very badly. Bethany helped herself by not panicking because more blood would have come out of her.
Bethany Hamilton is extremely resilient because she was confident, very determined to push herself harder, and brave throughout her tragedy. Bethany got attacked by a tiger shark Halloween 2003 at the age of 13. She was an elite amateur surfer. It was a shock to Bethany and her family when she was attacked and now left with only one arm. Bethany was very brave before and after the attack.
I nearly drowned when I swam into the deep end of my friends pool , my mother had to jump in and pull me out of the water. Immediately afterwards my parents placed me in swim lessons. I struggled with swimming at first, but I persisted and became a strong swimmer. As my skills improved my parents had me join swim teams where I managed to go to the League Championship. Then I decided to apply my skills to lifeguarding.

We find a boat and sail towards Europe. Right when we arrive, we get kidnapped by the European government. We were held captive for twenty four hours until we find some solid rocks that we use to break free. We find ourselves on a ship, “LET’S LOOK FOR MY SISTER” Taylor says to me with the most frightened voice I’ve ever heard. We search and search but we find nothing.
The search and rescue mission was initially hampered because the Comoros nation has no search and rescue capabilities. Two French aircraft and a boat were sent to hunt through the wreakage and local fishermen joined in the search. Thirteen hours after the crash these local fisherman made an incredible discovery. All 153 passengers were initially believed to be dead but they found the sole survivor, 14 year old Bahia Bakari, who had been travelling with her mother. She had been able to cling to the wreckage and after spending three weeks in hospital she made a full recovery from her terrifying ordeal.
These stories are culturally significant because they provide universal lessons to many different cultures, especially Danish culture. “The Little Mermaid” shows the trials of the youngest mermaid of a Sea King who has six daughters. The Sea King is widowed and his mother takes care of his palace. “They were six beautiful children; but the youngest was the prettiest of them all; her skin was as clear and delicate as a rose-leaf, and her eyes as blue as the deepest sea; but, like all the others, she had no feet, and her body ended in a fish’s tail. All day long they played in the great halls of the castle, or among the living flowers that
