The book I read is called ‘Revolution’ by Jennifer Donnelly. The story takes place in Boston, Massachusetts and Paris, France. The setting is important to the story because Paris is where the French Revolution took place and it is the place where our main character starts changing. It is about a girl named Andi. She is a senior in highschool.

A small and fragile girl No more than eight years old stood shivering at the dock. Sickness and fear consumed her Trembling body which she attempted to cover with an old piece of carpet.
She is taken in by a local family, but eventually goes back to live with her abusive parents. Pecola’s parents hate themselves and each other which is expressed in equal measures of violence and neglect. Pecola is raped by her father and impregnated, but the child does not survive premature birth. Eventually, Pecola pleads with a town mystic to grant her wish of having blue eyes, believing this “mark of beauty” will finally earn her the love she so desperately craves. Pecola finally loses her sanity, believing her wish granted, and spends the rest of her life in a world of fantasy on the edge of
The author uses a theme to convey the central idea of the importance and effects of a person’s individuality on both their freedom and euphoria. Examples can be found in the text that clearly shows how the author uses a theme to develop the central idea
In this essay, I will be talking about all the hardships that Lyddie had to push through and how bad their lives were back then. Many young girls, working as young as ten, had many harsh conditions already. Starting in chapter 3, which was the cutler's tavern, Lyddie got her first job. Even in the beginning, you could tell it was going to be a harsh time for the rude comments given by the owner. For example, “ “Go along” the woman was saying.
This is his coping with it, he runs away just like his father and mother did. Due to the fact that he never had a loving family, he ends up raping Pecola. All his life he has been oppressed and learned that you can’t blame the oppressors. The only thing you can do is pass the oppression along. He is the symbol of the perpetuation of oppression and how it cannot be solved.
One of the main examples of this theme in “To Kill a Mockingbird” is when the community of Maycomb is being racist towards their African American community. One moment when the kids were at the church with Calpurnia,
In return, Tom carelessly finds himself in troubling situations repeatedly. Judge Driscoll is also betrayed when Tom sneaks down stairs to steal from him and ends up piercing him with a knife and killing him. Females and Femininity is surely another important theme expressed in Pudd’nhead Wilson. There is no doubt that Roxy’s decision to switch the babies is the main storyline of this novel.
The book begins, with the main character, Lina a young inspirited artist and her family getting arrest. Her father was separated from her family and taking from her home town Kaunas, Lithuania. As Winston Churchill said,” Success is not final. Failure is not fatal”. It is the perseverance and hope to continue that counts. This is the story of a boy named Junior whose key is his hope. The Absolutely True Diary is the life story of a Arnold Spirit (Junior) and his efforts to break the stereotypes about Indians.
Anne Frank A Light in the Dark Anne Frank once said, “I keep my ideals, because in spite of everything I still believe that people are really good at heart.” Many people know that Anne Frank was an extraordinary diarist, truly an optimist, and a spunky, energetic girl, but did they know that she was wise beyond her years? She changed the world by blessing humanity with her extraordinary literature skills and imagination. She showed that even in horrible times, people could make the most out of it, and not wallow in their misery.
Pecola and her mother, Pauline, see themselves as ugly because they hold themselves to beauty standards in which light-skinned people are the ideal. Pecola and her mother have a brutal home life due to the drunken violence of Cholly Breedlove, and the constant pressure of beauty standards only adds to their misfortune. Morrison explains this pressure by asserting that “[i]t was as though some mysterious all-knowing master had given each one a cloak of ugliness to wear, and they
The authors want their audiences to use these tales and examples as life lessons and hope for them to utilize these sources in their future lives. These two ideas are presented through the use of figurative language, mainly metaphors. In addition, the similar tone of these pieces allows the author to connect more deeply with the readers. Toni Morrison’s Nobel lecture, folktales, and several poems illustrate how metaphors and tone are used to describe experience and caution the readers.
Imagine how it feels to be stuck in a tiny, miniscule room for almost two years, not able to make a sound or movement and if heard by someone, death or concentration camp is the destination? The Diary of Anne Frank by Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett is about a small family which consists of Anne, Margot, Mr. Frank, and Mrs. Frank who were in a shock of fear, and went into hiding during the Nazi occupation of the Netherlands. Over the course of the story other characters join the family into hiding such as Mr. and Mrs. Van Daan, and their son Peter. During the time of hiding, Anne kept a diary to write down all her thoughts, fears, and feelings and was later known to be the most important piece of literature from the times of the Holocaust. The story takes you through their everyday lives of hiding in the annex which also includes arguing and times of happiness.
In a genre as well populated as Holocaust literature, The Book Thief and The Diary of a Young Girl, present themselves both as excellent and dynamic narratives. The Holocaust was a time of great tragedy throughout the world; Jews were being hunted down, and forced to be sent to concentrations camp under the orders of Adolf Hitler. The Diary of a Young Girl, details about the hardships faced by Anne Frank while hiding during the Holocaust, while the Book Thief narrates the story of a young girl growing up during the same. Both offer an unconventional depiction of Holocaust in that they depart from the traditional literary forms.
