Abstract: Chinese have learned English for a long time. The process that Chinese learn English can be divided two periods, the first period is during the late of Qing Dynasty, and the second period is after the reform and opening up. Every period English has its own feature.

China has a longer history than British, lager population than British. However, English is the language that is learned by all around the world. Learning English is a long history in china. There are two period studying English in China.

On the contrary, it obeyed the order of Chinese grammar. Pidgin English ignored the tense, aspect, voice and number of English grammar and preferred speaking English with the way of Chinese expression. For example, Chinese people said “what piece more good?” to express the meaning of “which is more expensive”. Some foreigners disliked the way of expression, and they regarded the expression as a horrible way to use English because they had to learn using Pidgin English to communicate with Chinese businessmen. Pidgin English was not standard English. If they didn’t study how to use it, they might have no way to understand Chinese in trade. Pidgin English exerted an important influence on Chinese modernization and promoted communication between Chinese and foreign trade. As a diplomatic officer said,extensive transaction could go with a swing because the popular of Pidgin English. However, with the development of missionary school and governmental school, Standard English was more and more popular. Pidgin English gradually disappeared. It disappeared, but it was earliest symbol that English was dissemination in china. It offered valuable experience for Chinese future English
