“it’s never too late to be whoever you want to be. That quote was from the author of “The Great Gatsby” F. Scott Fitzgerald. Did Fitzgerald represent the 20s ideals correctly? Before we get into that question let me give you guys a summary of the masterpiece of “The Great Gatsby” “The Great Gatsby” by F. Scott Fitzgerald This book takes place in New York City sometime in 1920. The main character is Nick Carraway or some people think it's Jay Gatsby. Gatsby is in love with a girl named Daisy they were involved years before in the army but after the war, Gatsby disappears until he gets money and buys the house right across the bay from Daisy's house. Daisy is married to an enraged man, who is having an affair with a woman named Myrtle. Gatsby befriends Nick because es related to Daisy. He and Daisy reunite fall in love plan to run away, Tom finds out about the affair. The big argument, Daisy hits Myrtle with Gatsby's car. He did a good job showing how free they were. They had so much freedom, all they did was drink and party. Fitzgerald showed how crazy people partied in the 1920s, he also showed the struggles of the 20s also with sexism and racism. This quote, shows “Life without liberty is like a body without the spirit” It’s saying life without freedom is like you are dead. I like this quote because it really summarizes how living with no freedom feels like just empty and lifeless. This next quote is about Gatsby’s bootlegger friends, “He and this Wolfsheim bought up a lot of side-street drug-stores here and in Chicago and sold grain alcohol over the counter” (87 Fitzgerald).
