"A hero is someone who does something for others. He does something that other men don’t and cant to. He is different from other men. He is above other men. No matter who those other men are, the hero, no matter who he is, is above them.
A question often addressed in literature, media, and art, as well as by people themselves. The typical idea of “heroism” tends to bring to mind an image of a superhero or someone who saves many lives, but does being heroic always involve having superpowers or putting yourself in danger to save others? Exploring what makes someone a “hero” in others’ eyes could just mean looking at people who do things that no one else would think or care to. Evaluating what defines a hero in the most basic sense can help to show what being a hero actually

Grains describes his hero just how I embody mine, selfless, devoted, and loyal from a man who hasn’t known me my whole life but, treats me like he does. My stepfather, has only been in our lives for about 9 years but, has proved to my family and I that he is willing to sacrifice everything for us. He single handedly bought us a new home after 2 years of moving from California to Laredo. At first, my siblings and I were sketchy but little did we know he would turn out to be our noble and considerate hero.

Heroes in our society are revered and respected as Joseph Campbell reminds us: “A hero is someone who has given his or her life to something bigger than oneself” (Joseph Campbell). Heroes exist in all societies and throughout history. Maybe they are not always on the news or from the movies, but their words and their actions never fail to resonate across their feats. Heroes are characterized as ordinary people who act for the greater good, just like some of the characters in S.E. Hinton’s realistic fiction book, the Outsiders. Secondly, he is compassionate, which is a dominant trait of many heroes. Though he may have done some heroic things, Johnny cowardly ran away with Ponyboy after he killed Bob, instead of explaining himself to court and facing the possible consequences.
