What is the difference between Cologne and Perfume? This may seem like a basic question. Perfumes emote a sense of femininity while colognes seem more masculine. But the difference between the two is not gender related at all. Both consist of essential oils mixed in an alcohol base. Perfumes have a higher concentration of the essential oils, however, and thus follow the wearer throughout the course of the day — even after just a short spritz. Colognes, while consisting of generally the same make-up, generally have much less of the essential oils. Therefore, the smell only lasts a few hours and is incredibly diminished. It adds just a hint — something a little extra. Because they contain so much more of the pure essential oils, perfumes tend to be quite a bit more expensive. And because their scent is much more lively and …show more content…
The stuff can be applied over and over via splashing or rubbing, as it only lasts about 2 hours. It is particularly appropriate in the summer months; Eau de Toilette (or EDT): This is the most popular of all the generally feminine forms of perfume and cologne. It usually contains around 10-20% concentration of essential oils. The premier scents after spraying — the top notes — are refreshing and zealous. They linger only momentarily before descending into the middle and base notes. Like the cologne above, eau de toilette is generally accepted in the summertime. It is sold in 100 ml bottles; Eau de Parfum (or EDP): The basis of eau de parfum is focused on its middle and base notes. The top notes might not have a lot to show in eau de parfum, but the lingering scent strides through. Therefore, it is often used on hair and clothing — not just the skin. The concentration of essential oils lies between 15 and 30% and is cheaper than regular perfume — but contains the same longevity. It’s sold in 50 ml

Sui Sin Far brushes upon the theme of assimilation in Asians who come to the U.S. Each short story has different viewpoint of the way they handled their cultural conflicts. I want to draw attention to the two short stories “Mrs. Spring Fragrance” and “The Americanizing of Pau Tsu”. The two texts both contrast with each other when it comes to the characters Pau Tsu and Mrs. Spring Fragrance. Mrs. Spring Fragrance has become to embrace her American individualism because she speaks English, her home is an American style home and continues to dresses in westernized clothing neglecting her traditional wear: “my husband desired me to wear the American dress.
Some oils are engineered or extended with the use of synthetic chemicals. For instance, much of the lavender sold in the U.S. is the hybrid called lavandin. It is cut with synthetic linalyl acetate to improve the fragrance, then propylene glycol, DEP or DOP are added and it is sold in stores as lavender oil. In France, production of true lavender oil dropped from 87 tons in 1967 to only 12 tons in 1998. During this same period, global demand for lavender oil grew over 100%.

Grenouille is a unique character in Perfume: The Story of a Murderer in the sense of his supernatural sense of smell. Grenouille’s sense of smell not only aids him in accomplishing his goal in creating the perfect scent, but it also develops his character with several hardships, such as various people throughout his life underestimate and demine the existence of his supernatural nose. Patrick Suskind, the author of Perfume, portrays Grenouille as a bildungsroman who accomplishes his goal of crafting the perfect scent by overcoming constant shunning from society during the end of French Renaissance. Within 18th century of France, the society is very religious on Catholicism and ranking of wealth, and the possession of supernatural qualities is a threat to the way of life that is either satanic or an advantage for one’s own desire. Despite society claiming Grenouille’s unearthly nose is unholy to religion, is a target of wealth, and the people an arrogant understanding of new things, Grenouille keeps striving with his ambition.
Grenouille “possessed a power stronger than the power of money, or terror, or death – the invincible power to command the love of mankind” but he had achieved his life’s goal and never wanted to use the perfume- just create it. At this point in the story Grenouille holds the power of doing whatever he wants to with the world in his hands and realizes he has completed what he wanted to achieve “So, to hell with it he thought. To hell with the world. With the perfume. With himself.”

Introduction: The purpose of this experiment is to synthesize the component of strawberry fragrance – methyl trans-cinnamate. This reaction is accomplished by a Fischer esterification of methanol and trans-cinnamic acid refluxed for 1 hour
Industries that utilize ester compounds are the perfume industry and the flavoring industry for the smells that we smell while we wear perfume and eat things, respectively. Also glass industries use polyesters (like polymethyl acrylate, etcetera) to make glass. In the process of synthesizing an ester, it is important to include a strong acid. The concentrated acid in this experiment was sulfuric acid.

Each one should have the right scent in order to activate all your senses. Different smells evoke feelings. They can even bring back memories. For example, the smell of tropical fruits sends some people to their dreamy place; others prefer lime grass or bubblegum and that may remind them of a childhood story or a favorite holiday. It is up to you to choose which ones make you feel relaxed and as light as a feather.
