CHAPTER 1
INTRODUCTION
1.1 Background
One of the basics of human need is interaction with each other or interacting with surrounding world and this interaction can be called communication, which is one of the most important thing in life for all humans, so that the ways people communicate can categorised in two different ways which are verbal and nonverbal. verbal communication is the use of language to talk other people who can hear or close to hear you, while the nonverbal communication is the use gestures of some of the body parts to communicate with the deaf people or someone who can’t understand your language or may be far away a big distance from your position. So that people made different kind of gestures that any one of them

People, in order to interact with computers or machines used bush button remote control, keyboards, mouse, or touch screen in the latest technology for the last decades, but now technology makes possible to communicate gestures with the electronic devices. So far many researchers did their projects in this field so that interaction between human and machines can be easy in certain ways, so; the aim of this project is to investigate how all those researches done their projects to interact with the machines and also find if there is a better way that is more fine and easy to use to communicate with the machines by using hand gesture based remote …show more content…
Scope and Limitations
Hand gesture recognition has a wide range in terms of the body parts that are involved, and to recognise gesture as it is the best alternative way to control machines, computers, electronic devices and also to communicate them with gestures as the humans do, this give high potential to the project and its capabilities in the future as well as today. In this project it will cover several gesture to recognise and then it will change those gestures into their relevant output as expected. Although there are some limitation made in order to meet the requirement of the project and they are as following.
i. The body parts that can be involved in gesture are included the head, the face, however, the lower hand part will be involved in this project to do gesture as input to the system, because it can give too different gestures that can be analysed, and when it comes to hand mostly the lower hand part is what gives the gestures. ii. Labview will be used to detect hand gestures because it has good tools to analyze the convexity detection method. This programming language Labview, it is an open source and it has a library which mainly focuses at real-time computer

Hey John, Thanks again for taking the time to meet with me. I attached the link to the global view of Flexport 's trade network that I mentioned at Peets. If all goes well for Flexport and Otto, there should be a lot of squares for self-driving trucks in a couple years! I am going to keep updated with Otto 's progress and I hope we can reconnect sometime down the line. Enjoy the rest of your week.
The first activity is interactive to create a basic awareness of the nonverbal concept of touch. The students will be paired up in two and sit facing each other, although their eyes will be closed. The teacher will instruct the students to hold their hands up in front of them, and to touch flatly their partner’s hand. Keeping in mind their eyes are to remain closed and are supposed to use their hands to communicate throughout this entire activity, the teacher should instruct the students to say “hello” to their partner’s hands. Then instruct the students to have an argument, and afterwards have the pairs make up and say sorry.
Is spoken language really a superior option of communication over gesture? From Hand to Mouth; Michael C. Corballis uses many examples to show why communication through spoken language is better than gesture. Corballis uses the appeals of Ethos, Logos, and Pathos to effect his readers. Ethos is a strategy that uses ethics and the establishment of credibility. Logos reaches someone’s mind with logical arguments and with clear structure.
According to the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD), “American Sign Language is a complete, complex language that employs signs made by moving the hands combined with facial expressions and postures of the body.” While American Sign Language (ASL) is the primary language of most deaf North Americans, it is also used by people who are hard-of-hearing. Just like the spoken language, sign language is not universal. In fact, American Sign Language is based on the methods of the French. Also, the immigrants in Massachusetts had their own sign language known as Martha’s Vineyard Sign Language, which is very likely to have been absorbed into ASL (Nomeland and Nomeland, 2012).
Most of the Asian don’t touch people if they are not really close friend, it is a little bit different from the America style. Haptic maybe can let other know what the relationship between you and your speaker is, also, it can transmit the communication to the speaker. X-24 dragging Logan easy and his hand has pop out blue vessels and burst tendons, it shows that he has a strong arm. He also uses is paws pierced into Logan’s heart and lift him up, his hand is full of strength and muscles. The paws are the part of X-24 hand, because he is also a mutant guy.
Communication is one of the most important aspects of human life. Without communication, we would be a primitive society of wild animals, unable to cooperate and achieve great feats, such as building the Pyramids, landing on the Moon, or organizing a democracy. All people rely on communication to express ideas that motivate positive societal and political change. Yet not everybody communicates in the same way. There are several thousand languages that people speak; there are several hundred thousand people around the world that suffer from disabilities such and blindness or deafness that require special means of communications such as braille or sign language.
The touch is perceived in a positive way. There is a precaution in this theory since most of the touches may suggest otherwise rather than the intended purpose. Nonverbal messages can easily interact with the verbal messages. This aspect has been used in the development of a communication theory. The nurses should be keen in attaining the nonverbal messages which are used by the patients in communicating with them.
According to the Oxford Dictionary, communication is defined as “the imparting or exchanging of information”. While this definition may be simple, in effort to fully understand the subject is much more complex. Effective interpersonal communication centers around the concept that language directly reflects and shapes perspectives. In order to highlight the intricacies involved during dual perspective communication, I dissected a conversation between a close friend and I. Further analyzing the overall conversation allowed me to understand the power of language and the prominence of nonverbal cues.
Body Language: How to read others’ thoughts by their gestures is a multimodal text written by Allan Pease. Pease wrote this book in the 1980’s during a time when more women were joining the workforce and the book is described as a “self-help” book. The purpose of this book is to inform the reader on the subconsciousness nature of their gestures, but Pease uses the book as a way to clarify the contrast between the man and the woman. I believe that this book is more directed towards the male audience as it focuses primarily on gestures more associated with men and often uses images of men when demonstrating the gestures. (formal).
The issues of racism, poverty, and segregation suffered by African Americans are commonplace not only in today’s society but society of the past. These issues were a major barrier in the way of those before us who strived for the equal treatment of all humans. In both The Autobiography of Malcolm X and Silent Gesture the authors write about their specific struggles against social injustice and human suffering. An analysis of the two novels show that to convey their individual hardships, the authors give examples of their struggles that appeal to ethics, logic, and emotion. Both of these novels express that these issues were an everyday struggle of African Americans of the time period.
Now that I have lived here for a while, I have realized that it is another way of communicating. A lot of people use hand gestures, but what makes the Italian hand gestures so unique is that there are gestures about everything. About 250 hand gestures are used in everyday conversations and each hand gesture represents distinct words or phrases. Moreover, the history behind
The issue facing the Deaf Community that was most challenging was getting ASL recognized as an official language, and having to learn how to read lips and speak without either ever being able to hear or from only having the ability to hear for a limited amount of time prior to learning how to create words verbally. For example, according to the article, “In 1880, the Milan Conference passed resolutions that outlawed the use of sign language in the education of deaf children in favor of the pure oral method”. Due to this decision, many deaf children were stigmatized because they lacked the ability to communicate verbally and now were forced to abandon the only means of clear communication that they had been taught since many of them had never
Q.no.4 Justification for ASL chosen? Two-way transmission of American Sign Language (ASL) video can give normal communication for the deaf. American American Sign Language (ASL) was developed in the 1800s. Sign Language (ASL) is a language that employs signs made by moving the hands combined with facial expressions and postures of the body. It is the primary language of many deaf people who are deaf and is one of several communication options used by people who are deaf or partially deaf.
All human beings communicate either with intention or without intention every single day. According to Barth (2014), Palo Alto Team stated “ one cannot not communicate” in one of their axioms of communication. Communication can be defined as “a social process in which individuals employ symbols to establish and interpret meaning in their environment” (Went & Turner, 2014, p. 5). It can be divided into three models in order to enhance our understanding towards the function of communication, which are mainly linear model, interactional model and transcactional model (Wood, 2009). According to Went & Turner, 2014, there are also different traditions and contexts in communication where it helps us to break down difficulty when we attempt to understand communication theory and their process.
