But, blizzards are also disasters which causes loss of life and property similar to any other disaster. Blizzards are most common disaster in the North Eastern countries. They are nothing heavy and ferocious winter storms along with strong wind of about 40 miles per hour. Blizzard can last for two hours.
The devastation of hurricane Irma was wide-spread and will take years to fully recover from. The total damage Hurricane Irma caused is calculated to be around $100 billion. The damage ranged from destruction of houses and building to 6.8 million people being without electricity (O’Hara, Kristy). The storm caused 38 casualties in the Caribbean and 34 in Florida. Irma flooded the entire area, leaving some places with hip-high water; buildings were lost, and caused destruction to anything that stood in the way.

These also have been very dangerous elements like water spouts that can easily terminate any passing ship or plane and the Gulf Stream ocean current is very strong and is reported to move faster than 5 mph in some areas. This is more than sufficient enough to throw the sailors hundreds of miles off course as they do not know how to compensate for the current. A third reason could be careless sailors and other people. The coast guard in the Bermuda Triangle area get more than 8000 distress calls a year that is more than 20 a day. Most are sailors who have run out of gas or have encountered any foolish problem.
Superstorm Sandy Superstorm Sandy devastated almost all of the eastern seaboard and parts of Cuba. The hurricane started as a normal tropical storm over the warm waters near the equator (Pacific and Atlantic oceans). Then began to spin counterclockwise and form into a hurricane. The hurricane was given a category one rating on October 23, 2012.Even though the hurricane did not touch the Dominican Republic it still dumped twenty inches of rain in Hispaniola. Over fifty people died from flooding and mudslides.
There could be a large, weak tornado or there could be a small, strong tornado. The amount of twisters has increased over the decades. The average number has actually increased over a year or so by a dozen. In the 1960s, there was about 650 tornadoes reported and then in 1990s, the average grew up to more than 1,100 tornadoes reported (Perkins n.p.). In the article, meteorologist Joseph T. Shafer said that, “the reason for the rapid increase in numbers isn’t because of climate change, it’s because of people change” (Perkins n.p.).
