This can be reflected in the LGBT+Rights Movements, with activists wanting equality between straight cisgender people and LGBT+ people, and show how a person’s sexuality or gender identity does not reflect their personality. In a New York Times article on the 2015 Supreme Court decision granting marriage equality, Adam Liptak quoted Justice Kennedy, saying “without the recognition, stability and predictability marriage offers, their children suffer the stigma of knowing their families are somehow lesser. They also suffer the significant material costs of being raised by unmarried parents, relegated through no fault of their own to a more difficult and uncertain family life”. The marriage laws at issue here thus harm and humiliate the children of same-sex couples.” Although this quote is on the issue of marriage equality, it outlines the theme of the LGBT+ movements: they want equality, they want recognition, and they want safety. Like in the book, where Lee mostly uses the setting of a courtroom to make her point, one of the many LGBT+ Rights Movement’s tactics also uses the legal system to make their movement move forward, and uses its environment as a way to peacefully debate different discriminatory laws and policies.
Perry we see the issue regarding the major political issue of the legalization of same-sex marriages. While some individuals rebuke or chastise homosexuality, other individuals will embrace it as just another aspect of life a average norm to be. We must questions the reason for the early determination of same sex marriage constitutionality. When it comes down to it, our society is just making it illegal for people that live their lives differently from the majority of us. It is inequitable for our government to decide on whether or not homosexuals can be married.
“Gay marriage-it’s not about two people being gay: it’s about two people who love each other and who have decided to commit to each other for the exact same reasons any other couple would get married,” said Luke Macfarlane. Research states that in the Netherlands same-sex couples adopt more children than opposite married people do. The governor of New York said that more money came to the state after they allowed same-sex marriage. Although, allowing gay couples to wed could further weaken the institution of marriage, however; same-sex marriage should be allowed because history proves traditional marriage has changed, the U.S. Constitution protects our rights, and it would help boost the economy. Some will agree traditional marriage has always
Another argument would be that each person is made for one other person and that’s what makes us monogamous. In reality, it all depends on our own mindset to know which path to follow, or at least that’s just one opinion. According to Shakespeare’s Hamlet, it is considered acceptable to marry and be beloved by more than one person since circumstances diverted to lead to that end. Hamlet’s case reveals that his mother, Gertrude, should not have married “a vice of kings, A cutpurse of the empire and the rule”. Though that is one opinion on the table, his mother Gertrude would negate him with this ideal since she married Claudius for the
Women in the 1920s are somewhat similar to the LGBT Community. In a way gays are the new women. Just as females were struggling to attain their voting rights, the gays are also experiencing the same situation. Although few states allowed it, numerous states and countries still disapprove of same-sex marriage. However, the majority of the gay population are very open with their sexuality, and they’re demanding for marriage rights.
I believe that there is a difference between the Democratic and Republican parties, on the grounds that they both differ policy attitudes. Individuals who claim to be Democratic turn out to be more liberal when it comes to policy questions, such as, supporting federal expending on day care and the such, as opposed to those who claim to be Republicans. The representatives to the Democratic and Republican presidential proposition conventions most of the time have contradicting views on questions regarding to crime, welfare, military, and the such.
Maybe in the past was weird to know an intersexual person, like hermaphrodites to mention an example. Nowadays, we all know or have seen a member of the “LGBT” community, but the huge difference is that we do not understand it. The supermodel Hanne Gaby Odiele said, "People want to put us in a box — male or female — but in reality, sex is on a spectrum." "Intersex is just proof of that." (CHAPPELL, 2017).
What bothers me is the idea of governments tolerating the violence against the LGBT community. Most countries exhibit many contradictions Even though the routine themselves to be liberal democracies with the constitution to guarantee all human rights to every citizen, some citizens, government institutions, some human rights groups reject calls to respect the LGBT people. The liberal governments are supposed to be secular states inspired by the need to live free from discrimination based on religion, sex, tribe, country of origin, and others. In the secular liberal country, claiming that the LGBT community violates the moral precepts of the Bible and that these people deserve to be torn into pieces is a move that must be opposed by at least the reasoning citizens. If some members of the society think that LGBT people should be criminalize, then it would also be important to criminalize adultery—this is against the Ten Commandments in the same bible.
This compromise offers more transparency, as states can have the right to either support or be against ban on gays. Each state has different laws and views about the issue, according to Public Discourse website, it states “Some states have laws that forbid discrimination based on sexual orientation. The Scouts’ traditional policy runs afoul of such laws and was in fact challenged as a violation of New Jersey’s anti-discrimination laws in the latter part of the 1990s.” (Public Discourse). Therefore, BSA should take a different route to justify its behavior against gays ban. Thus, BSA can set up meetings with its funders such as UMC church, and work on a decision whether to allow LGBT people or even girls to participate in BSA.
For example, Democrats believe homosexuals should have equal rights to heterosexuals. They should be able to marry or adopt children if they choose to do so. On the contrary, Republicans believe that marriage and adoption should only be accepted when a man and a woman are involved. (Democrat vs Republican, n.d.). Under the women’s rights branch, the two party also contradict.
