Between the film and play versions, there are slight differences, such as perspective, which must be put in place in order to make the film to seem more like a film, and the play to seem more like a play, which leads to why and how the character John Proctor appeals to the viewer in the movie more than the play. From personalities, to actions, a lot of things about the characters are different. For instance, the script of the play that was read in class did not include the part when the girls were dancing with Tituba in the forest. That scene is not entirely necessary, but it would have opened more people’s eyes instead of them having to use context clues to figure out what happened. On the contrary, others would argue that the beginning part with the girls and Tituba was not necessary to start the plot of the story. Another instance would be that during the movie, the character seem to be more aggressive and emotional. An argument against this could be that those were simply stage directions, but the play does not speak of Reverend Parris tearing up and slapping Abigail and such while the two of them are in Betty’s
Differences throughout the play and the movie of The Crucible occurred. In the play written by Arthur Miller, Tituba was threatened to be whipped by Reverend Parris if she did not confess to witchcraft. In the movie, she was severely whipped by Parris for not confessing. The directors chose to make this change because it showed the severity and how much the people believed the accusers in the Salem Witch Trials. This change of scene impacted the movie by…….

In the play, Elizabeth and John certainly have problems and have cold discussions due to the mistrust Elizabeth has for him after his affair with Abigail. In the movie, there is nowhere near as much emphasis in the distance between Elizabeth and John since they are introduced working together as a family on the farm instead of inside the house before dinner like in the play. In this way, Hytner is able to remove the focus on the character role of proctor and balance it to the rest of the play and on the witch trials. Unlike the movie, the play allows for the reader to build a conflicting reputation following g the contrite character of proctor as he tries to justify himself before his wife. The focus on the character development of John is removed and is magnified upon the tribulations in general brought forth from the witch trials.
Miller portrays John Proctor as initially selfish, but he becomes selfless by the end of the play. It’s shown throughout how as the trial goes on it changes John as a person, in the following after John has been accused and imprisoned they try to convince
Reverend Parris begins to question Abigail about what they were doing in the woods. Betty still could not wake so Reverend Parris sent for Hale. Hale specializes witchcraft things. Hale believe that there is something supernaturally wrong with Betty. When Reverend Parris questions Abigail it he brings up that Abigail was let go by the Proctors and has been re-hired in months.
The tone immediately showed mischief and tomfoolery primarily from attraction unlike what was written in the playwright. This also showed the future significance and unmistakable relationship between Proctor and Williams throughout

Arthur Miller wrote The Crucible in 1953. Arthur Miller wrote the play because he was inspired by McCarthyism. McCarthyism was the hunt for communists that was taken too far. In The Crucible he presented a universal message. He was comparing how communists did exist and witches did not, but yet they were both taken as serious.
Nicholas Hytner’s adaptation of Arthur Miller’s The Crucible is pulsating with dramatic energy. Hytner has also directed films that were adapted from stage. Hytner works in a punchy, combustible style, sweeping his camera through the sunny fields of Salem, using wide-angle lenses to make the actors’ faces pop off the screen. In the movie version of The Crucible, Elizabeth Proctor was one of the most believable characters from the play.
What the Audience learns from John Proctor throughout the Crucible is that John Proctor was a flawed character and the beginning of the play, but coming into conclusion of the play he regains himself because he chooses to act as a tragic hero by seeking justice for his wife, friends, and
JOHN PROCTOR: TRAGIC HERO Arthur Miller’s The Crucible is a greatly revered work, and it reflected the times of America in the days of McCarthyism. Perhaps the character that connected to the audience most was John Proctor, the protagonist of the play. He reflects the mistakes that we have made in our lives, and the struggle that some of have while trying to take the blindfold off of other people. He should be considered a hero because he feels guilt, and therefore tries to make up for the fact that he once had an affair.

In the play along with the movie The Crucible, John Proctor and Abigail Williams have interesting relationship bound by adultery and lies. Abigail becomes obsessed with John and will do anything to be with him. John quickly shuts down her fantasy ideas and tells her that what happened between them was a one-time thing that will never take place again and a mistake on his part. With this knowledge, she soon spends all her time plotting to get John all to herself and to make him fall in love with her, even if that means taking out John’s wife, Elizabeth. We see many examples of this forbidden relationship through their secret encounters and arguments in both examples of the story, still, there were more scenes of John and Abby alone in the movie than in the play.
At the beginning of the play, John Proctor is depicted both as a proud man who kept his affair a secret from the public to protect his name, and an honorable man who built the Salem church. Before Elizabeth Proctor was accused, John Proctor tried to distance
