This combination of direct and indirect factors inspired colonists to rebel against Britain and eventually led to the American Revolution. Without the Revolution, there simply would be no United States of America. The revolutionary ideas our country was founded on, such as the right to life and liberty, freedom from tyranny, and consent of the governed are still exercised today and continue to form American society and protect its citizens. The American Revolution was caused by a combination of direct factors, along with the support of Enlightenment ideas, which reformed thinking in the colonies. These factors included abuses of power such as implementation of taxes and acts, along with denial of representation in Parliament. Tensions deepened
