A wide range of courses is offered for both locals and international students alike. Assessment strategies adopt the required changes and needed development to enhance the learning and delivery methods. Innovation and flexible approaches are a must for the application of methods of assessing for learning, especially when it comes to examination procedures.
We need to adapt this culture of assessment for learning in order to meet all requirements. As educators, we also know that our students have diverse needs and have different capabilities with a variety of learning styles, including a difference in cultural, social and linguistic backgrounds. The students’ skills and knowledge can be manifested in various ways. Since we have these differentiated instruction methods, it only leads to differentiated assessment to facilitate learning. The students’ perseverance, commitment and motivation are very important. These assessment methods need also to assist students with learning disorders.
Job coaches and Learning Assistants have been newly employed by the institute to give the necessary support. The aim is to develop a culture of composing assessments for learning. These need to have certain criteria, being:
• Able to give an explanation of what knowledge students have, their understanding abilities and how these together shall be utilised once completing successfully our course.
