Introduction: Seat belts have avoided the driver from moving forward but, the resultant force is still allowing the driver to move forward. The car designers and engineers had to go through plenty of ideas to find a material or an idea that can prevent car crashes while using seat belts. After a certain amount of ideas, it was planned to have soft and inflatable interior to make sure the driver lands on a soft surface. They hypothesized that this their most efficient idea but, while testing it out, it was shown that it isn’t possible. In 1952, John.W. Hetrick created the airbag that solves the issue. Many cars didn’t start having airbags until the mid 1990’s. Now, we have airbags in every cars. Paragraph 1: Since airbags have to be created, …show more content…
Every device has a flaw and unfortunately, airbag has a flaw. Previously, it was analyzed that airbags have changed the survival rate from car crashes by 60% but, the negatives and the flaws of the airbag has to be analyzed as well to come up with a statement if the airbag is a reliable device as we think or not. Airbags are attached to significant parts of the car in order to avoid any further injuries. Which means, it has to be perfectly designed and well placed to make sure the airbag has an affect. The device is attached to mechanical parts to make the timing right and to make sure it is reliable but, there are some cases where the airbag device can malfunction and it will not be in the time where the driver needs it the most. Only few cases have dealt with this problem. As the device malfunctions, there is a high probability the driver can’t use the airbag properly again. This affects economical issues because the device used to make the airbags are extremely costly and it isn’t wise to be wasting large amounts of money on a device that malfunctioned. This allows us to understand that the airbag isn’t perfect and these moments may take someone’s …show more content…
It protects us from car crashes and severe head injuries. However, we will be in trouble if the airbag malfunctions or breaks down. In other words, the airbag solves the problem of car crashes but, there is a possibility that it may malfunction and due to small errors, a life can be lost. We still have to solve these problems and make sure that airbags are the most reliable devices anyone can use. We have to make sure we keep on modifying the airbag for safety and to make sure we can prevent car crashes. Overall, the airbag is a reliable device that solves is purpose and the
Did you realize that people die from non responsible people. Cell phones destroy families every time one of these accidents happen. The main reasons are, unfocused behavior whilst having passengers in the car, reckless driving, face to face distractions. The list could go on and on but those were the popular topics chosen. Family members are losing their loved ones from distracted drivers.
For someone who attends the races every Saturday racing or not I have never stopped to think back in the 1920 's how a car was set up. In many pictures of cars back in the day you see them without roll cages, window nets, good seat belts, or even a helmet. Safety of race cars has changed drastically over the past 95 years. Cars started to evolve by the increase in scientific study and some died over the years. One man 's death that everyone knew and loved changed NASCAR forever.
(Wallace, par. 5). A change in behavior and culture would lead to more safety than any safety equipment would because in that case, the society would not risk as much as they would with the safety equipment in
Leonhardt evidences this tragedy by a graph which compares American rate of vehicular deaths to that of other developed nations. The statistic shows how countries, such as the United Kingdom, have progressed since 1990 and are presently driving on significantly safer roads. In doing this, the author is attempt to convince the reader of the deviation between America’s motor safety and that in other nations, and the necessity of greater progress in the USA. This effect is similarly shown in a later graph where Americans tendency to drive recklessly, including speeding and driving without a seatbelt were compared to the tendencies of other nations. For the second time, America becomes an outlier, with a significant portion of its citizens admitting to previously driving in unsafe conditions.
The author used various statistics to reinforce her topic such as, “From 1977 to 1995 three and a half times more male drivers than female drivers were involved in fatal car crashes.” These numbers
Even with side-impact airbags, the energy of the crash is not able to be absorbed through the vehicle’s engine compartment
The article leans towards a conspiracy theory type style some would say. The article focuses on the points of how seat belts can kill, which will not be the topic of the research paper but this article contains valuable information that will assist a lot when writing the research paper. The article has a very nice setup to it, it begins with explaining in detail how the seat belt laws were first created and put into law. The article then moves into how the American people clearly opposed this new law of being forced to wear a safety belt, when citizens felt that it was their personal, free choice to do so or not do so. The article goes on to explain how these seat belt laws may possibly be nothing but a money gimmick.
They will improve road safety, decrease street traffic, reduce human errors on the road and time will be saved, making the journey enjoyable. There are many advantages which robotic cars have to offer. However, the most important one is that they will improve road safety for motorists. A study was conducted by National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that in 2014 ninety-three percent of road accidents happened because of driver errors. Individuals sometimes make incorrect decisions.
The current legal drinking age has reduced the number of fatalities (Jones, Pieper, and Robertson 112). Although this is true, alcohol isn’t the only factor that should be considered. The enforcement of seat belt use is also a major point in the study that often isn’t referred to. Tests have show that the number of automobile-accident deaths have decreased since the mid-1900s; consequently, the MLDA was put into force around the same time. Many argue that the increased drinking age is why these accidents have decreased; however, around the same time the usage of safety belts in cars was emphasized more during this time.
Magdalena Perez English 106 Mr. Skyler Meek June 10, 2015/ Up dated June 27, 2015 Cell phones while driving According to NSC's website, there have been an estimated 245,358 car crashes involving drivers using cellphones so far this year. One effect cellphone use has on drivers is an increased reaction time, which is similar regardless of handheld or hands-free phone use. Every year many lives are lost because of the distraction on the road and for this reason use of cell phones while driving should be illegal in all of the states. The National Safety Council's annual injury and fatality report, "Injury Facts," found that the use of cellphones causes 26% of the nation's car accidents, a modest increase from the previous year.
Specific purpose: To persuade my audience about making not wearing a seat belt illegal. Central Idea: I will discuss the problem with not wearing a seat belt, the causes of not wearing your seat belt, and the solutions to make drivers and passengers wear their seat belt. Introduction I. Attention: We all heard of the saying click it or ticket it. Just imagine in one moment your whole life changed by one decision you could have avoided simply by buckling up.
Communications of the ACM, 58(8), 19-20. This article talks about the moral challenge between driverless cars and drivable cars. The article introduces how driverless cars can out preform normal cars because, the driverless car will have greater perceptive abilities, better reaction times, and will not suffer from distractions (from eating or texting, drowsiness, or physical emergencies such as a driver having a heart attack or a stroke). Also the article states that 90% of crashes are due to human
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration began to investigate. It examined whether driving in high humidity regions contributed to the risk of Takata airbag explosions. However, Takata said there is nothing to indicate any inflator safety defects. On June 23, 2014 Honda, Nissan and Mazda recall 2.95 million vehicles. This brought the total recall to about 10.5 million vehicles over five years.
Seat Belt Laws Motor vehicle crashes are the number one cause of death for people ages 1-54 in the United States every year. Seat belts are the most effective way to prevent some of these deaths. With that being said, primary seat belt laws should be recognized and made illegal not to wear a seatbelt when riding in a car in all 50 states. While wearing a seat belt, injuries and fatalities are less likely to occur in an accident. Too many people disregard the risks they are taking when they choose not to wear a seatbelt in a car.
A sad reality of Americans today is the mentality that individuals carry that nothing bad will ever happen to them, I won’t get cancer, I won’t have my personal information stolen, or I won’t get into an accident. In actuality, bad things happen to everyone, very often they are completely unexpected and if you were not prepared, you will soon wish that you had been. When it comes to motorcycle crashes, no one ever expects to be involved in one, and anyone who is seriously injured in one while not wearing helmet or safety gear, sure wishes that they had been. Most importantly, motorcycle helmets save lives and prevent people from minor and serious injuries. Motorcycle specific clothing, such as a leather jacket, kevlar padded pants, boots and gloves also prevent against serious or minor injuries.
