Moreover, we can minimize carbon footprint in different ways from daily life such as taking more public transport instead of private cars, pursuing less meat and more vegetables in meals and recycling the rubbish. All these mini actions of everybody helps big improvement of the earth. Although there are lots of measures to maintain sustainability, the effectiveness need to be concerned. Undoubtedly, Ocean Friendly Menu Programme ensures the sources should be sustainable, however this program is not popular that only few caterers join. Thus, the result of changes may not significant. The government should widely promote this program to different enterprises, letting them know more about its benefits and the serious stage that the world is facing. The consumerism chapter of this book shows that consuming is the lifestyle that seems logical to people for what someone has shows what their lifestyle is. Everything that is consumed eventually becomes trash. The growth of the human population is destroying our ecosystem. It is socially constructed in the sense that consumption is something that is taught rather than being born with the desire to consume products on a massive scale. Manipulation and hegemony are how we get into consumerism.
Although it may not seem like it, issues concerning pollution in the ocean have a great impact on the lives of humans. The image’s creator most likely took this idea into thought when constructing the ad for the Surfrider foundation (figure 1). By making a connection between sushi and trash in a natural way that seems believable and not too bold, the image is able to appeal emotionally and logically to whoever views it. In addition, since most people are aware of of the pollution that takes place everyday on the planet, the image’s credibility is enhanced. With a unique strategy to draw the attention of a vast audience, the Surfrider Foundation uses the ad pictured above with the intent to educate the public about the effects of pollution, specifically in the ocean.
The term “locavore” is used in this essay to refer to the trend of “eating locally produced food” (Pelletier 703). If society only follows the locavore movement it will cause lots of problems throughout the world. Pelletier informs his readers that the world will be very different than it is today if society followed the 100-mile rule and alternatives to this rule when reducing the carbon footprint. In the US, 40% of food produced, or approximately 365 million pounds of food, is wasted each day. Food waste, however, is a problem that extends beyond America, affecting billions of people as a global issue. The overwhelming amounts of food that are being discarded contribute to global warming and climate change, and prevent the massive number of hungry people from being able to eat nourishing meals. Humanity as a whole must be more mindful of the Earth and its health, as we are the source which most directly affect it. Due to the profound environmental impacts of food waste, a reduction in the amount disposed is necessary to create a more sustainable environment, and humans have a responsibility to protect the planet, even if it requires drastic changes to the current food system.

If people can stop wasting money, they can use the money to improve their life in other aspects, such as entertainment, education, and health.
