Growing demand on environmental protection, cost saving, carbon emission reduction, health-concerned issues and high-performance materials for technical applications have led to intense research in the production of polymeric materials from renewable resource from plant oils such as soybean oil, sun flower oil, cashew nut oil and linseed oil rapeseed oil and shift in focus from the petrochemical based polymers. A renewable resource is a resource which can replenish or reproduce with the passage of time, either through biological reproduction or other naturally recurring processes. Bozell et.al. [1] and William et.al.[2] have reported that renewable assets have seen colossal use for synthetic combination of polymer in both ndustrial and academic division, because of the developing concerns with respect to natural manageability. In such manner, Desroches et.al.[3] have reported that instability regarding value, slow diminishing of fossil based assets and issues identified …show more content…

Castor oil contains rich triglyceride which is derived from the plant Ricinus communis L. The castor plant grows very fast in many tropical green regions. Now a day’s most of the countries such as Brazil, China and India provide over 90% of the oil. In addition, castor oil contains a large content of fatty acid which contains hydroxyl compounds with unsaturated compounds. This versatile material is light in color; highly viscous fluid, low toxic and highly thermal stable. The compatibility of castor oil with oils, waxes, natural resins, and gums shows attractive and needful properties [3]. Considering the worthful properties of castor oil and presence of 90% ricinoleic acid, efforts have been taken for the formulation of polyurethane. Thus, the use of castor oil is a suitable alternative material over petroleum-based polyols for the production of polymeric materials with variety of
