What would you think of when hearing the word “mechanized”? Many people may think of big machines running, working tirelessly in the field. Indeed, that’s exactly what’s happening in the mechanized agriculture, the way most of our food are grown nowadays. Besides, there is also another way to grow food, the organic agriculture. Both of the two types of agriculture are pretty modern and popular, but which one would be better? For those who doubt the safety of mechanized agriculture, they could be more likely to prefer organic agriculture. Most consumer buy them for better nutrition. But would organic food really have better nutritive value? Years ago, a group of nutritionists analyze the nutrition in organic food and traditionally grown food. They responded to this question with the result of this experiment. "The answer is no. Organic food is not nutritionally superior to conventional food" (Doheny). At the same time, however, how organic food is produced will definitely raise the price of organic food. This is because during the process of growing and producing organic food, the use of chemical fertilizer, pesticide and artificial addictive are restricted, while using these substances is the most effective method in the production of food. As a result, other more costly and ineffective ways to fertilize soil and to prevent the damages from pests have to be used and thus increase the cost of organic food. According to a survey, “The mean cost for organic items surveyed was 68 percent higher than for non-organic” (Pillsbury). Such a high price is not affordable for everyone.
