Nevertheless, There are some drawbacks of studying abroad. It is particularly worth mentioning that overseas students have to confront extraordinary pressure. For one thing, although independent study mode is beneficial, the abroad teaching contents, learning methods as well as teaching methods are totally different from domestic, which make overseas students lag behind the teaching progress. Therefore, overseas students are under huge academic stress. For other other thing, overseas students feel lonely and isolated because they may be entirely friendless, unaccompanied without family connections. For as long as I can remember there has always been a yearning deep within my innermost being to experience first hand an array of cultures and countries. As a teenager, I had the good fortune to travel throughout Europe and to live in Germany for two years. Traveling and living abroad was so appealing to me that I decided as a young adult to relocate to Mexico. While in Mexico I not only acquired a profound respect and appreciation for their culture, but also worked diligently in order to achieve a near native proficiency in the Spanish language. Upon my return to the United States, I slowly began to formulate my next adventure, a trip to the culturally rich and uniquely diverse country of China.
We all go through certain challenges in our lives which help us growing as a person. Those challenges help us in learning that how we can change ourselves for betterment of our personalities and to adjust in certain environments. Coming to America is one of the major social and academic challenges for an international student but there are some sub-challenges associated with it and if a student deals with those challenges efficiently, he can deal with any problems in his life. It is important that we learn the skill of dealing with challenges because life is a journey which brings a lot for us and we have no idea what is it bringing next for us (Polanco, 2010). Studying in abroad is a major challenge because a person has to live his life without
Keira Williams is a leader for the program that connects people to study abroad opportunities and how to prepare for an interconnecting world. She experienced the effect of global education first hand, when she traveled out of the country, to China, for the first time. She believed the experience of being a “fish out of water” was a very grounding and humbling experience (Appendix A). Her trip led her to believe in two significant processes a person should learn when young and inexperienced. The idea is to appreciate both “confidence and humility” (Appendix A).
The School’s purpose is clearly affirmed in the mission statement found on page 5 of the MLES handbook,“Maple Leaf Educational System’s goal is to blend the best of the East and West and provide an excellent quality educational program that prepares the students well, regardless of race or country of origin, for the global world of tomorrow” (1.1_2). This statement has been revised from 2013 (1.1_3) and is revisited frequently during stakeholder meetings in Dalian. Certain elements such as “blend the best educational practices of the East and the West”, “a high quality educational program with a global focus”, “equip international students for success in post-secondary studies”, and “enable students to develop as global citizens and leaders”
In the interest of national security and competitiveness, government, foundations, and businesses should enter into new consortia to support the education of Americans for a global society”. The humanities therefore offer much more to a nation than democratic ideals, they also offer a wide range of business advantages. It is also notable that nations that have solely focused on the sciences such as China and Singapore have revised their academic methods in order to include the arts and humanities. The Heart of the Matter states that these nations “ are now aggressively promoting them, because they have concluded that the cultivation of the imagination through the study of literature, film, and the other arts is essential to fostering creativity and innovation”. The intercultural skills provided by the arts and humanities are extremely essential for an internationally focused nation that wants to exceed in the business world due to the many skills it

My interest in intercultural communication and determination of pursuing a career in international education motivated me to apply for the MA ICBP at Warwick University. The decision has been carefully made based on my bachelor degree in International Communications Studies with Spanish, voluntary teaching in primary schools in China and Cameroon. After graduation, I wish to work for as an administrative coordinator in an international education institution or as a program manager of NGO, promoting quality education. With 3-5 year working experience, I will head for a PhD degree to prepare myself for a research-oriented position. Undertaking my bachelor degree in the first Sino foreign university, the University of Nottingham Ningbo China (UNNC), is the first step for me to engage in cross-cultural communication as a learner.
Question 1 Discuss why you have decided to study abroad. Explain why you chose this particular program and how it relates to your personal and academic interests. List some of the courses that you are considering for the term and briefly explain why they interest you. (about 300-350 words) My motivation for this experience is to broaden my scope of education and make myself more marketable for a career in International business.
I think I am still weak in this aspect. One is that, although the university is an international one and has students from all over the world, our courses are mainly focusing on the Asian area, especially Hong Kong and Mainland China. For example, in my courses of Taxation and Business Law, I was only taught the practices of Hong Kong. In addition, it is difficult to change the personal ways of thinking, which has been kept for many years. I always express ideas only from the perspective of a Chinese, instead of a global outlook, and that has narrowed my thoughts to a great extent.
When it comes to attending college, there is always a variety of people saying it 's the best decision one can make. On the other hand, there 's always a select few who don 't agree with the idea of actually going to college. Don 't get me wrong, college does have its advantages and disadvantages, but when it comes to creating a solid foundation of financial stability - institutes and two year programs are the best routes to go when seeking success and opportunities. Some of the perks of furthering your education after high school are that you 're able to live a more comfortable lifestyle, earn a higher income, and have endless job opportunities within the field you decide to major in. There 's always a down side when it comes to attending
I hope I can use PEARL’s closely-knit environment as my advantage to encounter different international students and develop into a better
Culture Shock-One of Common Problems in Intercultural Communication. Cross-Cultural Communication, 11(8), 71-74. Cultural exchange programs are for connecting, enriching and empowering the global community. Cultural exchange programs expose students to people from different cultural, geographic, religious and socio-economic backgrounds and provide the opportunity for students to develop a greater understanding of diversity both in their home country and visiting country. Cultural Exchange Program allows students to interact with and learn from people who are different from themselves and to participate in new and distinctive experiences beyond their own communities. Cultural exchange helps students to develop positive relationships with others, understand a broader range of perspectives, and develop the knowledge and skills needed for participation in our multicultural society. Participating in International Cultural and Educational Exchange programmes is a life changing experience.
Studying abroad is a growing opportunity that many people around the world of all different ages take. In 2012, over 760 thousand international students studied abroad in the United States alone. The positive reasons for studying abroad are numerous, but there are also negative ones too. Studying abroad brings with itself a lot of preparation and responsibility. Also many people see acculturating oneself and making new friends in a new place can be challenging.
Further, students who study abroad think the experience is beneficial for their career path and success in the future [e.g., Dwyer, 2008; Orahood, Kruze, & Pearson, 2008]. They also become more responsible. However, there are various student prefer to study in Kuwait by reason of it is their country and they don’t aspire to leave their families and travel to study abroad. Also, employers report that they believe students who study abroad have strong interpersonal skills, a significant qualification for a potential job candidate [Doorbar, 2003]. Therefore, experience, knowledge and responsibility are three logical reasons why studying abroad is higher quality than studying in Kuwait.
