2.1. Advantages and Disadvantages of VDE
First argument in favor of the Valency Dictionary of English language is that it aimed to find a compromise between these two types of dictionary (scholary dictionary and learner’s dictionary). “It aims at greatest possible user-friendliness while at the same time providing a linguistically accurate description of the complementation aspects of the English Lexicon that aims to be of value to applied and theoretical linguistics and to encourage further research in the field” [Herbst 2004: xxiii].
