In highschool people and teachers stress that students need to go to college and it can (cause a sense of panic) in the highschool students (crawford). By putting pressure on high school students they often don 't think about the tuition they have to pay to get in, so they take what they can get to get into college. Parents want the best for their kids and
All of these aspects sound good for the high school level, however, they can be the polar opposites of how students are treated in college. Students not being used to freedom, for example, causes them to not be prepared for the over amount of freedom given during college. This leads kids to put off homework, not go to class, and other bad habits because they are not used to managing their time. These habits can lead to an unsuccessful college carrer, eventually leading to dropping out. A second example at the meso level is students getting caught up in partying on the weekends or even during the week.
This would put teachers in a hard situation and would not give them time to be with their family. This is another reason year-round school should not move to Florida. Lastly, a year-round school schedule may offer more breaks, but there is no proof that it helped students academically. Therefore the year-round school schedule does not truly benefit students or teachers. Also the more frequent breaks may pose the problem of students forgetting information after every break, which would cause for more review in class which does not help students learn new things.
“Students sometimes just cram the material instead of understanding the concepts thus affecting long term understanding of concepts” (Kumar). Another reason studying is inefficient is procrastination. When you procrastinate you’re not retaining much information needed to study. You don’t leave yourself much time to study, A survey conducted at Rajdhani Colleges shows, “Decline in average time spent by a college student in self study per week… majority of students spend less than 10 hours per week for self study” (Kumar). Just simply choosing the wrong environment impacts your studying abilities.
Some of the parents question how the school year continues but they have longer breaks and don’t have any no school days. Many believe that shortening school breaks will improve student achievement but still have continuous year-round school. Teachers and students stress is because
“As I see it, the debate between summer vacation vs. year-round school glosses over the most important questions namely, how can we bring play back to our nation’s schools?” (Darell Hammond) Year-round schooling would cause many problems if implemented at shattuck because Year-round schooling cost to much money and Kids need free time, and time with family and friends, also If you go to year-round schooling you won 't learn more than traditional schooling. Year-round schooling cost to much money. With the loss of these extracurricular activities, the school would then lose money that the activity brings in. Like With all the activities not being there anymore than they are losing money the activity brings so this is a crime. (JD Smith) And
Another very different thing that was common in the 19th century for schools was that school only lasted for 10 weeks out of the year. Many students would stop their schooling and education after the eighth grade so the students could begin to help out their parents by beginning to work and providing for the family: “For many, education ended after just eighth grade; in order to graduate, students would have to pass a final exam” (McCarthy). This style of teaching doesn’t do the best justice for the students. Within such a short period of time students had trouble being able to retain a lot of what they had learned, and also never reach their full learning potential and expanding their
They say that it is not worth it because many students do not graduate and waste their money and the governments. I on the other hand believe that even though you may not graduate from college you still get to learn the social skills needed in your everyday life. You may have failed a class in college so you did not graduate and now your thinking your money has been wasted, but it has not. You got to learn the curriculum and how to communicate with people at jobs or even your neighbors. Now that you have already taken that class you can try to take it again next semester and learn from your mistakes.
If students have a job after school and play a sport, then they probably will fail to be able to bear both with school starting later. For some athletes, they have to leave school early as it already is. If school were to start later, then students would miss even more of school. They could miss an important test or crucial notes for a test. School starting later would mean minimal time for the simple pleasures in
It is said that a well-educated workforce is a key to state prosperity and that college is considered the great equalizer, but rising school costs and crushing debt for students in the United States are beginning to take their toll. Community college enrollment has been on the decline for many years, and the trend may not reverse anytime soon (citation), yet steps to encourage college attendance are already being taken. Free community college for responsible students over the span of two years has already been proposed by former President Barack Obama (citation), while states such as Tennessee, Oregon, and Minnesota are offering some form of free college. Free community college is a very controversial subject with many opposing viewpoints, but the advantages of free education, such as an increased number of educated individuals, less student debt, and more educational freedom, could outweigh the potential disadvantages.
