He does this by adjusting to Hell. Throughout his journey, Dante feels differently towards the shades. One of the first time he sympathizes is when he is talking to Paolo and Francesca, in Circle 2, he felt so much sadness that he "swooned away as if I had been dying./And fell, even as a dead body falls" (Inferno IV.141-142) This is one of the few times that Dante faints because of
There are many people in the world that experience mental problems and therefore affecting their personality. Not everyone though is as bad as Macbeth when it comes to mental deterioration. Macbeth is a very self-centered man and it leads him to change the person he once was. Although it is not seen much in the beginning of Shakespeare's play “The Tragedy of Macbeth”, Macbeth’s mental state deteriorates as the play progresses, which can be seen when he is guilty of murdering King Duncan, being taunted by the ghost of Banquo, and his speech to the witches. Macbeth begins to go insane after he murders King Duncan at the beginning of the play.
Valverde 1 Joseph Valverde Mr. John Salmon Ap Literature October 2014 Volume 2 - Chapter 1: Victor Frankenstein is going through great sorrow and grief as his conscience cannot handle the guilt caused by the death of the innocent Justine. He “wandered like an evil spirit” (Shelley 103) as he was unable to conceive peace. This is much more difficult to admire him for. Hamlet spends so much of his time wishing for death that it is almost inevitable that he would die at the end of the play. If he had not been poisoned in his bout with Laertes, he would likely have killed himself afterwards. His fixation with dying and what comes after ("O! that this too too solid flesh would melt") is disturbing- it shows us the unsettled and broken man the young prince has become, and the instability of his mind.
Holden is always negative about his life and being depressed. This quote is considered to show the pessimistic view of Holden “When I finally got down off the radiator and went out to the hat-check room, I was crying and all. I don’t know why, but I was. I guess it was because I was feeling so damn depressed and lonesome”(Salinger 169). This quote shows much of how Holden feels as he uses depressed and lonesome together in the novel.
He complains about a pain in his side and a bad taste in his mouth. With the doctor not knowing what 's wrong with Ivan he get’s more paranoid. The concerned that it could be serious Ivan begins to get scared about death, because he hasn’t lived his life to the fullest. Ivan then isolates himself from everyone and grows very lonely. Only left to think about his past.
The alliterative structure combined with Hamlet’s cutting cries all add to his “weary” feeling, exhausted by “all the uses of this world” (133-134). Hamlet’s world is shaken, and his view on life has been altered as well. His depression is so great that he has thought of suicide, a huge cultural sin, as he knows. Hamlet’s thoughtfulness is also conveyed, taking six lines to delve into his emotions.
Dostoevsky uses Raskolnikov Romanovitch to claim that people must accept and overcome their suffering in order to feel remorse and establish a new life. Raskolnikov lives “crushed by poverty,” “hopelessly in debt to his landlady”, and feels guilty about the murder of Alyona and Lizaveta Ivanovna (1). His physical and mental state reflect his suffering; not only is he delirious most of the time, but is also sick and blames “the weakness of fever” for what he is feeling (77). He constantly lives in a state of denial, though small steps lead to the acceptance of the crime, first seen when he desires to confess to Nikolay at the police station. After he confesses to Sonia, she aids him by offering her sympathy, love, companion and offers him

An imagery that portrays love as a negative emotion is “my face turned pale as deadly pale.” This quote illustrates an image of the poet being so nervous that the powerful emotion turned his face pale. It conveys life taken away from him. Some people can even get sick; physically or mentally. John Clare is an example himself! He went insane and had to go to an asylum, all because of the strong feelings that conquered his life.
