After a troublesome and torrid time, the black people or what so called slaves, were entering the 20th century with hope of not being discriminated after the slavery had been abolished in the late 19th century. The beginning of 20th century had overseen the stampede of worldwide immigrants to America as they seek for a better life. As for African-Americans, they were entering the phase where they found themselves almost identical with the past century despite the slavery being abolished. Though the abolishment of slavery was written in the 13th Amendment, some of the states still legalized it. They were still in the same position as they were before in some of the states in America. In America, oppression has almost completely been suppressed. Our country’s forefathers have put forth much effort to obtain this for their “land of the free.” Some have even lost their lives in an effort to eliminate oppression, yet it still exists.

The most important of the vast privileges today’s generation of America has in my opinion are freedom and choice. Of course none of these would’ve been possible without blood, sweat, and tears from our soldiers.

Paul Krugman, an economics professor at Princeton, writes “Confronting Inequality” chapter 7 in his book. Equality in America is what makes America, what it stands for. Social and economic inequality still is a part of everyday life in America. Education is making parents struggle because they want to give them a good education; but also, health care for those who need it. Middle-class starts to scramble more every day while the high-class gets more prosperous. Inequality in America is creating trouble to the lives of Americans.

History books suggest that racism was finally over after the Civil Rights Movement, but racial bias is still embedded in white society. The government of the United States has taught and interpreted the idea of race onto its citizens. Race is not something that we are born with but instead we are taught who to discriminate against. Burgett and Hendler (2014a) state that race has established, “who may be property, and who are citizens, and among the latter who get to vote and who do not, who are protected by law and who are not, who have access and privilege and who are (to be) marginalized” (p. 208).

One of the biggest issues in our country today is terrorism. Many Americans are surrounded by fear of potential attacks and many more have ideas and perceptions of Muslims rooted in their mind. How do you find out about the nation’s news? Whether it be by social media outlets, such as Facebook, or by the good old fashioned newspaper, or by watching the news, you might find that there is an issue, concerning race, throughout our country. Although, the United States of America might seem as if it has overcome its racial problem, involving caucasians and people of color, it hasn’t. The touchy “race” problem can currently be found in news media. Even to this day, about two hundred and fifty years since America had gained independence, many people of color in American society still feel that they are treated unequally. In today’s society, the discussion of racial privilege has been a big discussion within society and politics in America. Although some people might not find, or see racial privilege in America as a huge problem, it is a big problem and makes many people of color feel like they are not welcomed in America.

The US justice system is marred with instances of high degree discrimination and disparities and these stems from unprecedented poor management of the civil law in the country. Judging by the nature of historical injustices that have defined the criminal justice system, it goes without mentioning that, the confusion’s genesis is in the law itself and racial incarceration of the minority colored groups by the majority whites. Definition of the two terms is based on differences but the deviations are based on either legal terms or social, economic and political basis for the other. The degree of difference is highly unrecognizable but then it is clear that where disparity exists discrimination

One problem that I believe is of utmost importance is social inequality. There are many different forms of social inequality in America. Through getting a degree in political science at your university, I plan to work to solve these problems facing America’s society.
