In Carol Daniels's novel Bearskin Diary, the protagonist, Sandy, is continuously discriminated against because of her Indigenous heritage and the colour of her skin. One of the main points of the novel is that Indigenous people have to work harder than their coworkers to get ahead. I do not think it is fair that Sandy has to overcome so many challenges to put herself through school and get her dream job of being a reporter. When she first gets the job, one of her coworkers says to her, "Just because you work here now, don't ever consider yourself one of us. You will always be inferior. It's the way you were born" (47). I wonder if the author is writing from experience, demonstrating how Sandy repeatedly faces unfair discrimination. I think
“Brownies” by ZZ Packer was a story focuses on the racial divide and prejudice between black and white girls in a brownie troop. Within the troop of black girls, Arnetta claims that she overheard a white girl say a racist remark which leads to her troop attempting to expose them; however, the plan failed. In the story, it states, “When you’ve been made to feel bad for so long, you jump at the chance to do it to others” (518). The quote implies that minorities will always hold a grudge towards white people, even though history is in the past. It also reveals why minorities may be disrespectful to them.
Kindred by Octavia E. Butler highlights the issue of racial discrimination and brings out the horrors that are attached to it. The book was written in 1979 and became super popular because of the issues still prevalent today. It reveals the story of a black woman, Dana, who travels back in time and becomes a slave, she then has to face the authorities that a white man had back then. Dana is pulled back and forth through time to protect an ancestor, Rufus. Dana struggles throughout the 1800s as a slave while having to work harder than she ever has, while also trying to protect him.
Silent Racism George Saunders ' "The Semplica Girl Diaries", is written in the style of a diary in which the narrator of the diary is a lower middle-class father is just trying to make ends meet. The father seems to have good intentions by always putting his family 's happiness as his priority; however, the consequences of his actions never seem to be quite as good. One lucky day he happens to stumble upon a winning lottery ticket and as expected, he spends it on objects he believes will make his family happy. Yet in the end it turns out that winning the lottery was more of a curse than a blessing. One of the biggest purchases from his lottery money was four Semplica Girls, who essentially hung out in the lawn like pieces of decoration.
In chapter two of the book "Of Mice and Men" by Josh Steinbeck talks about Lennie, a mentally handicapped character, getting a job. The article "Fake Cover Letters Expose Discrimination Against Disabled" by Noam Scheiber shows that, if the characters in the story knew this information presented in this article, Lennie would have an easier time getting a job. Noam Scheiber started to talk about how discrimination in the United States had been lowered by the government. "The study showed that the Americans With Disabilities Act, the 1990 federal law banning discrimination against those with disabilities, appeared to reduce bias" (3-4). This quote shows that legislation and writing that point out discrimination lower the amount of discrimination.
A RAISIN IN THE SUN was composed by Lorraine Hansberry and portrayed the difficulties of a Black family against its own particular interior issues as it is escalated by white bigotry. The play handles issues of a man controlled society, destitution and white-privilege. The everyday human difficulties of family duty and love wind up noticeably harsher battles despite urban poverty and of white bigotry. The play additionally addresses the change of the difficulties of a more seasoned age of working poor African Americans in contrast with a more youthful age’s difficulty. The relationship to white prejudice was tended to in many structures in this play.
People have worked so hard for this world to be equal. It’s not fair for one person to believe that they can do what they please. Everybody should be treated the same no matter how well the background may be. Miss Emily thought she should have an advancement in life after her father helped the town.
The Blacker the Berry is a remarkable, well-known novel by Wallace Thurman that explores and investigates prejudice and all types of pressures that are placed upon women but more importantly, the black community. The famous saying “The Blacker the Berry, the sweeter the juice” means the more unique qualities one may have- the better, but in this novel it takes another turn. During this time period, African Americans and whites were heavily segregated and they endured a lot of discrimination so when the novel told the reader that there was discrimination within the black community, it was completely unheard of. Wallace Thurman received a lot of criticism since he published The Blacker the Berry during a time period where most literature was
How To Kill a Mockingbird is made from the author Harper Lee. This book has a lot of forms of discrimination against certain groups in society which is morally wrong. The book contains forms of racism, sexism, and classism. Racism is the judgement against a certain. Sexism is judgement against a specific gender.

The young boy, Phillip, changed over the course of the novel, primed with a hatred for people of the black race, overall, he realizes that the only difference is the color of their skin.. At the start of the novel, Phillip is prejudice, in the middle, he is tolerant and by the end he has deep respect for Timothy. The Effects of Racial Oppression on an Ethical Man In life, there are many scenarios where normal daily activities can ultimately wear down a person to the point of an out-of-character reaction. Whether this reaction be full of anger, sadness, or even happiness, it may not depend if the subject is a morally upright human in the first place. These experiences can be seen in multiple stories in literature. In the story, “Like a Winding Sheet” by Ann Petry, the author uses point of view, characterization, and symbolism to express the effects of racial oppression on an ethical man.
In Hosseini’s novel, The Kite Runner, he provides a glimpse of the longstanding discrimination and racism within the Afghan society. He describes how for many years the Pushtuns have mistreated and oppressed the Hazara people. He doesn’t go into great-depth regarding the root of the hostilities, but comments, that this conflict is at least partly due to religious standing; the Pushtans are Sunni Muslims; whereas the Harzaras are Shi’a. Hazara people are of Mogul descent and bare the physical characteristics of the Chinese.
Discrimination is a constant reminder of inequality among the people. It is one factor that causes division among men and women, young and old, and whites with other skin color. Discrimination among the people turned the society into a battle field where one have to fight hard in order to survive. People normally ignore the idea of discrimination like the baobabs trees in the story of the “Little Prince”, but like the baobabs when it gets ignored it will grow big and tear the whole planet apart. America is a country that serves as a home to different kinds of people and inequality among the society is very visible.
The film “The Help” produced by Chris Columbus and the short story “All summer in a day” by Ray Bradbury have similar lessons to teach the reader and viewer. In “The Help” the main character Aibileen is a colored maid who is disrespected and bullied by her employer Elizabeth Leefolt like all of the other colored people. Then a white female named Skeeter comes along and stands up for all the colored . In “All summer in a day” the main character Margot is getting bullied because she is different and does not fit in with the rest of her classmates and she doesn 't do anything about it. But things are seldom as they appear.
Discrimination in Chains I don’t remember a time when there was prejudice, hate, and discrimination between races. All my life, I’ve been able to hang out, talk, and be friends with whomever I want, regardless of their skin color. Although I’ve never experienced it, books like Chains by Laurie Halse Anderson are a reminder that the world wasn’t always this way. There was once an America where slavery was rampant, and it was acceptable to shun or even hurt someone because of the color of their skin.
If all people are created equal of being by the same creator, then. Because of these theoretical principles, it is the responsibility of those who experience human rights to advocate for the equality of being for all people. This desire for equality of being constitutes as racial equality, gender equality, or equality of opportunity among social classes. Since humanity is not created the same, humanity cannot establish a consensus regarding the moral sentiment of equality to negate the extent of endowed human rights. Therefore, humanity’s lack of sameness leads to tension in defining the extent of efforts in advocating for human rights.
