As a graduate student at Capella, I chose to obtain a Masters in Psychology. This field was selected because I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work and I felt it was best to get a well-rounded education. I do not have an interest in becoming licensed and entering the therapy realm, as I highly enjoy the case management side of things. My passion has always been working in the child protective services field. Although I have experience with adults, this is the field my heart cannot leave. Therefore, choosing the specialization area of Child and Adolescent Development just felt natural. I hope to increase not only my knowledge, but the ability to apply my knowledge in a way that is unique and scholarly to the child welfare field. According to Broderick and Blewitt (2015), the crisis is initiated, on one hand, by changing characteristics of the person-biological maturation or decline, cognitive changes, advancing (or deteriorating) motor skills-and, on the other hand, by corresponding changes in others’ attitudes, behaviors, and expectations. For example, the first stage is trust verses mistrust. This stage is the first year of one’s life. In this stage, a child learns to either trust or mistrust their environment due to either proper or improper care of their needs. Although a child will still progress to the next stage, the incompletion of the first stage will maintain as a crisis in the psychosocial development.
