In the United States, turning 18 is a huge step for people as it marks individuals entering the adult world. At that age they are considered an adult in society. Open to more liberties, these young adults can drive, vote, join the military, and die for their country; however, they cannot possess or purchase alcohol. The current minimum legal drinking age, also known as MLDA, in America is 21. Numerous debates still occur today about the minimum drinking age. A poll taken on July 2014 asked the public opinion of US adults for lowering the US legal drinking age from 21 to 18. Approximately 74% of the people opposed the idea, whereas roughly 25% of the people supported the idea ("Public Opinion" 1). The statistics indicate satisfaction among the majority of the people; however, with the current laws many issues arise that must be addressed concerning alcohol use. For starters, studies show an increase of dangerous drinking habits among young adults (Hall 2). In addition, the enforcement of the drinking laws and education on alcohol is insubstantial (Moyse, Fonder 3). Society places laws to protect individuals. The rise of alcohol abuse raises the question if the minimum legal drinking age of 21 secures protection of the people. With proper enforcement of drinking laws in addition to education about alcohol, the minimum legal drinking age of 18 provides a safer drinking culture.
Throughout human history, there has been many different problems that people have faced and conquered. Alcoholism is an issue that still continues to give trouble to its victims today. The availability of alcohol is a key factor in the consistent increase of alcoholism cases. The only limitation to buying alcohol it is being the age of twenty-one. Even then, teens and young adults still manage to get their hands on alcohol frequently. Drinking alcohol at the legal age is perfectly fine but, the difference between an alcoholic and a person that drinks alcohol is a person that drinks alcohol occasionally can stop at one or two drinks, on the other hand an alcoholic is not capable of stopping at small amounts, they need many drinks before they feel satisfied. Alcoholics also drink daily and will not feel at ease if they are not drinking. Rex Walls was a prime example of someone who let alcohol control their lives. Throughout The Glass Castle, Rex Walls showed obvious
One primary concern Kingsolver has with the food industry today is that “Most standard vegetable varieties have been bred for uniform appearance, mechanized harvest, convenience of packing, and a tolerance for hard travel” (Kingsolver 622). These qualities however are essential for the companies that grow the vegetables. Most produce grown today, especially out of season items, is shipped long distances to reach the market. If these companies did not focus on growing their food with these qualities, they would lose a lot of money. Some of their products would go bad and spoil before even reaching their destination. This loss of supply would be inefficient, and decrease chance at profits for these companies. Agribusiness has evolved throughout the years, and these changes should be embraced instead of shunned. These developments are extremely
Drinking has gone on for thousands of years, dating back to biblical and Roman times. It was seen as a tradition, and even now in other cultures around the world it is too, but in the United States it is not as prevalent. Most Americans do not view drinking as a religious act and abuse alcohol. Even for those who are considered social drinkers do not overindulge and excessively drink. They know what their limit is and tend to stop. Some religions encourage alcohol consumption, while others despise it. Not all drinking in religion is seen as very ceremonial or a tradition. “Buddhism… generally states that nothing should be taken that will alter the natural state of the body. Islam, on the other hand, teaches that the consumption of alcohol is

As a student one of my strengths is organization. I can say I can keep my school materials and notebooks organized in a way that I and others can comprehend. The reason I can say I am organized is because, I have hardly ever had in the past or present any issues with trying to find homework or assignments because I always kept my materials for each class organized and in a place I could easily find. Another strength I have is social skills. I can believe that I communicate with others well in a group. The reason for this is that I can explain topics in a group if someone does not understand, I can say that this skill came with confidence to speak up and trust myself.
