Beatrice Prior lives in a future setting of Chicago, the city is separated into five factions. At sixteen you must select a faction, and for many it is a decision of remaining with their family or starting a new life. The five factions are like this Dauntless believe that bravery is keen, Amity has a heart faced on friendship, Erudite has a great love for knowledge, Abnegation agrees to pro self sacrifice, and the last one is Candor which has a great respect to honest, it likes to say things how they are. Beatrice family were Abnegate therefore she grew up in that faction. Once she became sixteen she thought it would be cool to join Dauntless because it caught her attention. She liked the cool life and that faction seemed to be cool there were …show more content…
She did not find her capable of being Abnegate like her family also not forgetting that her test results indicate that she is divergent meaning she does not really fit in any faction but that is a secret she must keep with her.
For Beatrice to join Dauntless she does have to do somethings it is not that easy for her to get in. Everyone needs to train and complete the training to be allowed to join a faction. She shows courage to be in that faction and starts becoming close to Four he starts opening up to her little by little. As time passes Beatrice changes her name to Tris. She makes friends but also enemies. While Tris is in the factor they start noticing that two other factor are having problems Erudite attacks Abnegation. Tris catches the attention of many people during a very traditional day which is the day of the capturing of the flag. Tris first gets an okay range while they are in the initiation but she has competition and is trying her best and got ranked first. She starts getting
In the novel “The Dew Breaker” by Edwidge Danticat, many of the character go through some type of traumatic event that lead them to wear they are now. More so like Beatrice, as you read her chapter in the novel you realize that she is some of the many people in the book that was left traumatized. She is hunted by the image of the dew breaker that, she had encountered when she lived in haiti. For her, her traumatic event was so great that even now she still relives it after so many years.
‘You see, it’s what you think of her.’ She turned to Josie. ‘Maybe I can take that trip now, leave you in Hollis’ hands. She loves you already.’” For Beatrice to say that is a wonderful thing to say.
(2.3.231) The next scene is the final part of their plan, to convince Beatrice that she is in love with Benedick. Hero, Margaret and Ursula talk together while Beatrice is listening. Their conversation is fairly similar to the one the guys had. After the girls are done deceiving Beatrice and leave Beatrice comes to the realization that maybe she does love Benedick after all.
It’s very different from Anthem because they were given a job and had to stick to it no matter what. They are also allowed to have their own ideas and can speak to anyone. When Beatrice got accepted into Dauntless she went out of her way to go and talk to her brother, then later on she saw her mom and and talked to her as
Each year, all sixteen-year-olds take an aptitude test that describes the faction for which they are best suited. After receiving the results, they can decide whether to remain with their family 's faction or transfer to a new faction. Those who do not complete initiation into their new faction become "Factionless" and are forced to live in poverty on the streets of the city. This story is from the point of view of sixteen year-old Beatrice
While they are conversing, Beatrice plainly states that she wants Benedick to “kill Claudio...a villain, that hath slandered, scorned, dishonoured [her] kinswoman (Shakespeare 74-75).” Beatrice makes very bold actions, and she is not afraid of doing so. This shows how Beatrice and Hero are foils of each other because Hero takes actions that are safe and pleasing to others, while Beatrice does what she wants and doesn’t care about what others think of her actions. Another example of this occurs during the Masquerade Ball. Beatrice talks with Don Pedro and is quoted to have said, “My cousin tells him in his ear that he is in her heart (Shakespeare 27).”
In the story I felt as if all of the characters played a major role in Beatrice dying but the ones that stood out the most were Dr. Rappaccini and Signor Pietro Baglioni. The story’s very sad ending shows us that Beatrice’s death is the result of two men’s ambitions. The ambitions were to protect Beatrice and to get rid of Beatrice. The only one that was accomplished was getting rid of her. I could just imagine how Rappaccini must have felt when Beatrice died especially that his rival was the one that killed
Even though this “war” happens amongst them, it is obvious that they care for one another or else they would not continue the fight; realistically, they would have ceased communication years before. Their relationship, through the war of wits was only seen as deceptive to themselves. Beatrice and Benedick constantly lie to themselves about their feelings towards the other, while their true emotions are apparent to anyone from the outside looking in. It is obvious from the beginning of the play, that the truth of their emotions would be revealed purposely or unintentionally by themselves or those around them. Their ironic nature towards each other, though seen as somewhat deceitful is more honest than their counterparts of Hero and Claudio who solely act upon opinions and rumors of
Hero, Beatrice’s cousin appears as a foil to Beatrice. Hero is sweet, naive, gentle and is willing to do whatever the people in her life command. She does not initiate anything on her own or make decisions. Beatrice is known for being outspoken and for her sharp-witted and comical remarks she makes towards Benedick. The two have been in a "merry war" and have refused to marry.
When Hero and Claudio relationship fell apart from a very ridiculous reason, Benedick and Beatrice stayed strong by each other side. Beatrice even though always believe in the independent life now she finally admits to Benedick that she loves him when she states, “As strange as the thing I know not. It wee as possible for me to say I loved nothing as well as you, but believe me not, and yet I lie not, I confess nothing, not I deny nothing. I am sorry for my cousin. ”(4,1,283-287).
When Beatrice asks Benedick to duel Claudio for her, he agrees and plans to duel him. Benedick and Claudio are best friends who had fought in battle together, but the love of a woman completely changes Benedick’s allegiance from his fellow soldiers to his new love. Before falling in love with Beatrice, Benedick would have done everything possible to protect his brothers in battle. Now, love has emboldened him to make a choice that he would not have previously made. Benedick’s sacrifice of a meaningful friendship proves that he is now completely devoted to his relationship with Beatrice and is willing to do whatever necessary to preserve that relationship.
Beatrice takes her aptitude test and resulted in multiple factions. Abnegation, the faction she grew up in, Erudite and Dauntless. Beatrice was labeled
If she becomes factionless no one will take her in and she will live on the streets in poverty. Tris love Dauntless and does not want to get cut and have to leave. Tris meets a guy there named four and she also wants to be with him so she can't leave.she wants to not be factionless and also, she wants to stay with the boy she meets is her motivation. She is also motivated by her family and her love for them and the guy, she
It was a set up marriage and she would just try to make the male proud. Relationships, in the modern day, are more egalitarian than they use to be. This allows Benedick and Beatrice to represent more of a modern time ideal couple, than Claudio and Hero. A great quote about relationships is “ Respect is as important as love in a relationships”
