They could learn from them about the new area and culture. They could receive their help in finding jobs and schools to attend. They could still celebrate their special customs and holidays, cook their type of food, and speak their own language all while living in a different nation. In addition, Immigrants could still worship their own religion. They could have separate churches, houses of worship, for each of their religions.
The number of statements to be answered can also be modified and simple statements can be made to encourage student ideas without being too overwhelming. How will I use the strategy? How will it be used within the longer lesson? This strategy can be used to evoke predictions and get students engaged in the text before beginning the reading. Children would make friends without looking at outward appearances and if that is something that I can learn and understand then I will achieve more. Getting involved in community and volunteer work will expose me to many different cultures and races. Community work will give me the confidence to speak to different people who all experience different things throughout their lives. The volunteer work is a more in depth aspect because that means that I can encounter various races and cultures. This would then give me the opportunity to learn new things.
The diversity of the group brings out different approaches to confront any math problem. One resource that the teacher could use to make sure cultural diversity is expressed, could be to use teaching strategy websites. It is up to the teacher to make sure students are being taught multicultural lessons. The teacher shows consideration in presenting cultural diversity, by letting the students work in groups. The students can absorb any information from other students who have a diverse cultural background.
Teachers may profit from having a varied population of students as teachers get a chance to improve their teaching skills and ability to distinguish lessons and activities when such different children are in their class. Regular teachers need to work closely with other teachers and specialists to meet the needs of diverse children, thus enhancing their collaboration skills. It also allows to develop an awareness and appreciation of students’ individual difference (National Center on Inclusive Education 2001). Besides, children with disabilities can motivate regular teachers to be more imaginative with their teaching methods, skills and come up with up-to-date methods of delivering lesson that fits all learners. Regular teachers may realize that all pupils have potencies, which can be useful and vital to their entire classroom, and these potencies can be fostered to produce a profound school experience (Kinza 2008).
Lastly, just like my fellow scholars and alumni were mentors for me, I hope to help someone else. By teaching someone else to let go of their fears and not be afraid to fail, I will make a great difference in their life. Touching somebody’s life and helping them be better is one of the best ways to change the world. The UT Forty Acres Scholars Program can help me better myself, the business world and those around
Diversity- Recources can promote diversity in many ways, there can be songs played from different countries and they can be compared to eachother, the children can write about the instruments used and which one was their fabourite and why. Teachers and other professionals require more training to work effectively with interpreters and pick up on body language and social, nonverbal cues. Teachers also need more training to work with bilingual students and their families. Wolfe and Duran (2013) also suggested that professionals provide knowledge to parents about IDEA and current laws concerning special education, informing them of their rights and the responsibilities of the school. Parents should be provided special training about the IEP process to become familiar with the steps and their role in the meeting. Access to other parents with students involved in special education could provide parents with a network of support.
