East Asians believe that they must always keep in mind the interest of others in anything they do or say and most individual will keep a balance of family and society in comparison to the West who are much more liberal. Asian people are less selfish and accept the cohesion, stability of the society and the rights of individuals. Respect for family ties and the elderly, frugality, hard work and team work are the elements. Asia is a big continent, with a huge diversity to speak about a singular and a fixed set of Asian values. Religion is an integral component of cultural values especially in East Asia – Buddhism, Islam and Christianity as it plays a part to identity and group orientation.
As equal beings, everyone lives together in the same planet, regardless the race a person is. Racism should be avoided among humankind. For example, the campaign, ‘Satu Malaysia’, which means ‘One Malaysia’, has opened many eyes of the people of Malaysia to merge ourselves into a society that radiates an approachably harmonious lifestyle and mindset. Despite the fact that these attempts to promote the display of love towards one another seem futile, the results show otherwise. During the three main festive seasons: Hari Raya, Chinese New Year and Diwali that unifies Malaysia as a country, many people of different ethnicities gather together to celebrate it.
I have thus learned that multiculturalism in society is essential for peaceful coexistence as well helping create a harmonious society. Besides, I am now able to understand the reason why so many foreigners can be seen visiting Singapore. The mere fact that they can experience and practice their cultures within the country without restrictions is a crucial factor to that
Malaysia is a democratic country with a plural society of different races. Ethnic groups in Malaysia are free to practice their own culture. Malaysians are encouraged to be respectful and do not affect the sensitivity of the racist. Diversity is making Malaysia a unique country because people of various races, religions and cultures can live in peace and harmony under one roof governance. This is because, understanding between people is essential to ensure harmony in the country.

As per say, many world leaders talked about the unity including our own Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Najib Abdul Razak. He introduced the 1Malaysia slogan to foster unity among all races in Malaysia hence address themselves as “Bangsa Malaysia” or Malaysian race. He understands that unity is essential in keeping Malaysia prosperous and move in the right direction. Malaysia is a multiracial country consists of various ethnic groups such as Malays, Chinese, Indians and others. Each has their own language, customs and beliefs.

There is a need to belong to a group larger than themselves, be it their family, school, work group, or country. They treat people with respect and dignity regardless of their personal feelings. They are willing to subjugate their own feelings for the good of the group.
