The index is recorded in herbs and climbers (0.146 - CONTROL SITES), (0.122 - REHABILITATING DEGRADED SITES), (0.1365 - TREATED AREAS, V.S.S) though they were less in number in each site and overall followed by shrubs (0.1071 - CONTROL SITES), (0.1001- TREATED AREAS, V.S.S) and in case of, REHABILITATING DEGRADED LANDSCAPES followed with (0.092 - trees) then trees (0.0931 - CONTROL SITES), (0.094 - TREATED AREAS, V.S.S) but in case of REHABILITATING DEGRADED LANDSCAPES (0.092 - shrubs) and least in case of saplings (0.0565 - CONTROL SITES), (0.054 - REHABILITAING DEGRADED LANDSCAPES), (0.061 - TREATED AREAS, V.S.S). The main role of the private sector to date has been to help through contributing manpower. Staff clubs and voluntary organisations often wish to contribute to environment. For eg; ARMY [Organization deals with protection and rescue of animals], V.S.S [for Protection of Forests], etc. (iii) Creating Public Awareness and Support:- A major effort is made to involve schools in forest rehabilitation. Important dates (based on environment calendar) are observed in this department like International day of Forests (March 21st), International day for Biological Diversity (May 22nd), World Environment Day (June 5th), etc. Its target is to give exposure in information related to importance and management of forests in reserves through activities like poster making, debate competition, and speech by Forest Personnel. (iv) Community Involvement:- Rourkela Forest Division gives more emphasis on community involvement specially people residing inside forest and in the buffer and transition zone. This is done by having meetings with forest people, by motivating them and encouraging them to protect forest from illicit felling, protection of regeneration 44 and sapling of species.
