“Our online friends don’t give us the feelings as friends we have seen and know personally”(Forbes. Forbes Magazine). This is why friendships made through the Internet are weak and easily breakable. We as humans need face-to-face contact to truly understand and bond with someone; without it, we feel lonely, knowing they are not truly the person we think they are. Therefore technology isolates us from human contact and eventually, we will become lonely.
More than likely you will not be able to contact anyone because the only way you communicate or interact is through social media. In conclusion, technology has had a negative impact on on human contact in today’s society. Hunter acknowledges this, explaining, “there are many people who purposefully craft an image of themselves [...] the lack of openness can lead to bonds not being fully formed.” Without an understanding of someone’s flaws, one cannot understand who they are and connect with them. Online personas prevent connection, but people do not resist this. Instead, they tend to embrace the loneliness and continue in the never-ending cycle of isolation and pretty pictures. It seems unlikely that in our world of constant communication that anyone could ever feel isolated, but the pressure users feel online to seem perfect prevents them from ever being anything else.
