The purpose of this experiment is to really see if I listen to slow classical music while taking test, will it affect how slow I take the test or if I listen to fast classical music, I will speed up doing my test. I chose to do this project because when I listen to classical music it seems to make me do things slower like if I were cleaning my room but If I were listening to fast upbeat music it makes it so I clean my room faster . There are several things wrong with Dr. Doodley’s experiment, such as the fact that she forgot to include a group with no music, for reference. Another problem that could have affected the experiment’s outcome was the hiss that resulted from the old tape, thus possibly making it difficult for the slow-music pool to perform well. Academic performance and listening to a certain type of music does not affect one another. Listening to Hip Hop is some students ways of trying to fit in with a certain group of friends. Rudy Miller states “Soothing music or classical music can help a student focus.” The author also exclaimed that, “British studies claim that listening to Mozart for 10 minutes produced a “Mozart Effect” where test-takers I.Q scores went up 8 or 9 points.” The writer of the article also announced, “After the 30-day course, the average retention rate per student was 92%.” Miller argues that “listening to music is good for the brain.
As Cathy Seeley explains in the article, Faster Isn’t Smarter: The Trap of Timed Tests, “Some students are good at timed tests and some are not. Students are also was prevented from finishing the test, something that causes some them a tremendous amount of stress.” Furthermore, the teacher was led to falsely believe that the student did not know the topic well. When students are put under tremendous amounts of stress, they often underperform because of the presence of anxiety. Indeed some of the students who completed the test and did well were those who indicated the most severe anxiety, talking about being “scared” when they were asked to take the test.
