Donald Trump is polling so low with black voters that reaching out to them certainly can’t hurt. For what seems like since the time of Genesis, Republicans have conceded the black vote to Democrats. As a voting bloc, blacks have been willfully taken for granted by Democrats for decades. There was a time however when the black vote wasn’t always in the back pocket of every Democrat. From Lincoln to Hoover, a span of nearly 70 years, blacks voted Republican. The Black Republican narrative is as long as it is historic, but most have no idea. The first black woman elected to both houses of Congress was Republican Margaret Chase Smith who was elected to the House in 1940 and the Senate in 1948. The first black man elected to the U.S. Senate …show more content…
It was Republican President Dwight Eisenhower, who despite protesting Democrats, sent troops to Arkansas to de-segregate their schools. Whereas, Democrats supported the KKK, instituted Jim Crow laws, and opposed Martin Luther King Jr.’s march on Washington. If anyone is in the position to step up and serve the unvarnished truth without gratuity – it’s Trump. Trump is perfectly situated for this because he isn’t a career politically correct politician, nor beholden to the influence of special interests groups or their money. Trump can tell it to black voters like no other presidential candidate has ever dared say. Being intrepid is what Republicans should have been ever since they won control of the Congress. But like the entire political class, they are terrified to run counter to the restraining politically correct culture. This same mentality affects so many black leaders as they know all too well that straying from the Democratic plantation, or showing any signs of conducting yourself like a conservative while black is an offense deserving of instant disrepute, an Uncle Tom, a sellout to the man. Too many still subscribe to such nonsense as it remains the most arresting Democratic sales …show more content…
The homelessness, unemployment, violence, murder, drugs, public education, you name it. In Obama’s adopted home in Chicago a recent headline read: “120 shot in one week in Chicago, 25 dead – all-time record.” By Trump reaching out at the very least he will make Democrats fight for their votes. If Republicans could get one out of every four black votes, Clinton’s political tenure would be over. It’s certainly possible as I’ve interacted on a daily basis with some when not surrounded by their usual posse of group thinkers, will tell you one-on-one that they like that Trump speaks truth to power. So far, these guys may be the exception, but if Trump can garner this segment of independent thinkers, he can change his fortunes and those of black America. Moreover, polls say many black folks don’t like Clinton. They can see through the lies and conceivably are the black silent majority. Rather, than cast a ballot for Clinton, they will sit out the election like 40 percent of eligible voters usually do. Clinton may ultimately win 90 percent of the black vote, but if the total number of black voters is down by a third, Hillary will have a difficult time
Black people are at a huge disadvantage, and were in an even worse situation during the late and post-antebellum periods. Communities were run by white officials and many of them had no interest in helping the local black population and still had a strong hold on racist doctrines. Many black people believed that an important step towards helping their communities in a major and semi-permanent way was to gain access to the political scene in order to take control of their own communities. However, a portion of the black populace believed that politics were not the way to achieve their independence, and instead chose the route of activism. Even though there were and continue to be differing thoughts on how it should be secured, the general consensus
Unfortunately, The Obama Administration soon leaves office with the worst race relations our country has faced in decades. The reason being that after failing in foreign and domestic policy, the democratic party needed a rallying point. One of those points was Black Lives Matter, which is and was a cynical effort promoted by self interest of the Democratic party to manipulate inner city blacks and win their support. In turn, votes for a democratic party that has utterly failed to bring any form of change to the impoverished black people of our
Rallying the Troops! To win the primary election versus Elizabeth Warren, Tommy Egan’s campaign efforts will have to be well calculated and executed in an excellent manner. Tommy will use his and his team’s analysis of the 2012 election and state demographics to create focal points, groups that they feel they need to most address in order to win their votes, and win the election. The television show Saturday Night Live performed a skit titled, “Black Jeopardy” in order to suggest that people, no matter their race or background, are more similar than society portrays. The writers of SNL support their suggestion by creating a fake game show, “Black Jeopardy,” for which the object is to answer the black cultured questions correctly. On the game show, the host, as well as two of the three contestants, are African American; the third contestant, Doug, is a white Trump supporter. During the start of the game, it is assumed for Doug to lose due to his race and assumed lack of knowledge of black culture with remarks such as “Sorry Doug!”
Yet the toughest part of the problem now is that as soon as you start talking about the Tea Party and race, they turn around and say, “You are the racist for saying that we are the racists.” The rhetoric of race has changed dramatically in a way that racial justice projects have lost, but also, and more fundamentally, liberalism has lost. It’s lost because race has shifted to a coded and expressed register and on both registers the language of race is controlled by conservatives. So on the coded register, you have this constant drumbeat of insinuations that taint liberalism as a giveaway to minorities through language like “welfare” or “amnesty” or “causing terrorism.” And you don’t see liberals using a coded racial language to rebut that.
The ability to use words to share ideas dates back to before religion existed, and yet look at what the Men and Women of Color have achieved in their short 300 years. Since 1741, men of color used their ability to reason and orate to share the horrors of slavery, banding together, often under the torture and scrutiny of the white government that oppressed them. Rhetoric of color has seen the fall of slavery, the fall of segregation, tougher laws against racism, the rise of the Civil Rights movement, and the beginning of the #blacklivesmatter movement. For a group of individuals who were once deemed three-fifths of a person, they have accomplished much. One main accomplishment that began before the Civil Rights Movement was the registration of black voters.
Pap’s virulently negative reaction to the African American professor is ironic because Pap is an abusive, alcoholic, ignorant thief who would definitely fall under the category of the scum or scourge of society and yet he finds the idea of this intelligent, responsible, African American professor voting repugnant, calling him a “prowling, thieving, infernal, white-shirted free nigger,” (27). Pap himself was “too drunk to get there [the polls]”(27) but now Pap “[he]’ll never vote ag’in”(27) which will most likely better the voting population. Pap’s feeling of superiority and juxtaposition of Pap and the African American professor shows the unfounded claims of racism throughout America, questioning the ethos of its perpetuators and their own
Ever since he became president; there have been more racial attacks, and slurs. At the rate Trump is going he will be impeached. As we all know Trump has been considered the worst president in history, therefore he should be
Blacked Out Most Americans are afraid of African Americans. Why, we ask? Most of us don’t know why we do, is it their physical appearance or is it the fact that they have a different skin tone? In Chapter 5: Black Men of The Culture of Fear by Barry Glassner, Glassner argues that the media exaggerates the excessive attention paid to African-Americans (Glassner 109). Throughout the chapter, Glassner exposes us to secrets and truths about how the media makes us fear African-Americans, they feed us irrelevant information that make it seem like blacks are still a lower class and therefore treating them like they are still slaves.
New York, New York - Who ever said; "When Opportunity knocks, open the door?" Whomever uttered that statement should be shot and gagged. That's the problem we face in this egotistical society! Opportunity is a fundamental gift that reserves itself for those who take and embrace a situation by exherating effort to make it happen. Charlamagne Tha God, the co-host of Power 105.1's The Breakfast Club explains in his new book Black Privilege: Opportunity Comes to Those Who Create It, how embracing one's truths is the fundamental key to success and happiness.
Shirley Chisholm was the first African American woman elected to Congress. She became the first black woman to seek a major party nomination for the U.S. presidency. Chisholm helped place the African American culture in mainstream politics. In 1924, Chisholm spoke at the University of Missouri and emphasized a black woman's role in civil rights and the American culture. Chisholm describes the black women's role in American society as displaced and misunderstood.
Racism’s Impact on Reconstruction While the issue of slavery evidently contributed to the divide that resulted in the American Civil War, it is debated whether prevailing ideals of racism caused the failure of the era following the war known as Reconstruction. With the abolishment of slavery, many of the southern states had to reassemble the social, economic, and political systems instilled in their societies. The Reconstruction Era was originally led by a radical republican government that pushed to raise taxes, establish coalition governments, and deprive former confederates of superiority they might have once held. However, during this time common views were obtained that the South could recover independently and that African Americans
His experiences with stereotyping and prejudices are eye opening and help create a sense of sympathy for him, as well as other African Americans facing such biases. Modifying the way you go about your daily activities, trying to ease tension in others, and attempting to avoid conflict whenever possible is not a comforting way to live. We Americans need to look outside of our comfort zone and welcome what we may fear. This may not be as perplexing of a task as some may think, and it will initiate change in how we view people different from
Introduction: Malcom X urges the Negro community to fight to gain the equal rights they deserve by taking action against their white oppressors. He emphasizes that blacks will gain their rights either thorough voting, with the ballot, or else through the inevitable violence with the bullet. Thesis [part a] Like Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., also fighting for the civil rights of black Americans in the 1960s, but in a more peaceful manner, Malcom X takes a different approach.
After the election of former president Barack Obama, racism in America was said to
