?Donald Trump?s surge in the Republican primary is being helped by an unlikely ally: the press? (Bacon, page 1). They say there?s no such thing as bad publicity and trump has taken that idea and ran with it. Whether he is saying controversial things like his comments towards Mexican immigrants ?They?re bringing drugs. They?re bringing Crime. They are Rapists. And some, I assume are good people? (Donald Trump), bashing other people on twitter to spread his ideas, or doing the ?Hotline Bling? dance on Saturday Night Live. Donald Trump is using the media to his advantage during his race for Presidency. ?46 percent of media coverage over the last month about the GOP candidates were about Trump? (Bacon, page 1). Trump is using the media to make sure that he is the only politician seen when you turn on the T.V

Media is becoming powerful in these races where the presidential race could be determined not by the best debate, but by the best tweet.

Media and its bias has been a factor in every election and is not necessarily a way to rig it. Trump feels the media is targeting him, but in truth an outlet always chooses candidates to pick on. He is not the only one. John Oliver`s “Last Week Tonight” had an entire segment about his running mates Jill Stein and Gary Johnson and made fun of them. On the matter of Saturday Night Live (SNL) they have always made fun of celebrities and government officials alike.
Are there any other topics that media show besides the immigration problem? The politician Donald Trump is gaining more popularity by arguing the journalists and the democrat politicians about releasing immigrants into the United States without a permit or a visa. He declares that the immigrants are the cause of bringing illegal drugs and gangsters to the U.S. It seems true that most of the immigrants cause more crime, but some like families needed a new life or a new future.
In such a way, the media in the modern day highlights the powers of the president in a clearer way than before. Presidents have had a chance to push their agenda and shape the public relations through the evolving media. It is quite astonishing that we have moved from fireside chats with FDR, TV with Kennedy, social media branding with Obama and now policy by a tweet by the great American embarrassment today. Kennedy, who had benefited greatly from his televised debates with Nixon in 1960, regarded television as an ally.
As of late the feud between the media and President Trump has escalated, this has caused the general population to be forced to decide who is the instigator, Trump or the media? I believe that while the media does retaliate, this childish back and forth was fueled by Trump and someone in his position should not focus on a petty feud such as this. I believe that as president he must show a strong image and refrain from continuing to ridicule the media. Because of Trump’s constant twitter rants about the media and the overall popularity of the issue many articles have been written on both the pro-Trump and anti-Trump side. These articles use different rhetorical devices to convey their point and get the reader to agree with them.
The media is a major source of information for voters. Voters depend on the media to make their decision on who to support and vote for. As much trouble as the media causes, they play a major role in our political system. The American President accurately depicts the political process.
Claims of “fake news” among mainstream media and independent sources are something that is getting the attention of everyone in the nation. This is causing a lot of people to talk about what they believe is actually going on with the media. In an article published on January 19, 2017, Bob Garfield addressed Trump on his claims about “fake news” in an aggressive manner and defending his career as a reputable journalist very strongly in the process. On February 27, 2017, Larry Atkins published an article responding to the claims Trump have been making about “fake news” and the media with a calmer approach. Garfield and Atkins both have their own way of appealing to their audience, Atkins article demonstrated a stronger and more logical approach
The author cites examples, such as Rolling Stone magazine, to prove a drop in their viewership due to political articles. He also mentions the 69th Emmy Awards - where speeches targeted Trump - which he argues caused ratings to decline. He further attempts to prove his claim
On June 16, 2015, Donald Trump stepped on stage in Trump Tower in New York City and formally announced his plans to run for president. One of the largest focuses of his announcement speech centered on immigration, more specifically Mexican immigration. He made comments stating that Mexico is currently sending only sending the worst of its population such as rapist and drug dealers into the United States (Ye Hee Lee 2015). Trump is a recent example how the popular media influences the racial prejudice towards immigrants, however, this is not a recent development. Some of the first anti-immigrant sentiment is only a couple of centuries old.
It also involves the marketing of politicians in favorable and unfavorable ways. Tilt?: The Search for Media Bias by David Niven compares media coverage of Democrats and Republicans in situations in which they deserved equal treatment. The book analyzes whether media bias or fairness is present in different pieces of news coverage, regarding people, mayors, congressmen, governors, and presidents of opposing parties, races, beliefs, and genders. The Politics of News, The News of Politics by Doris Graber, Denis McQuail, and Pippa Norris is about the daily struggles between journalists, politicians, and others who seek to influence public opinion and public policy in the media from the morning newspaper to the primetime news broadcast.
Murrow Political Bias in media is one of the most rampant examples of bias in terms of its influence on mindsets of people. The statement above by Edward R. Murrow makes total sense in today’s world. Political Bias is at its peak during elections. Public has to vote for candidates and much information about the candidates comes from media. Media, during these times, takes this advantage.
Media bias is not a new practice. Thomas Jefferson, prior to his presidency, stated in a letter to Edward Carrington (1787): " And were it left to me to decide whether we should have a government without newspapers, or newspapers without a government, I should not hesitate a moment to prefer the latter. But I should mean that every man should receive those papers and be capable of reading them." Jefferson was for the press and believed it was a great tool to inform the general public.
I have come to realize that the media has always sided what was popular to the public. Though in some cases I’m sure there have been some influencing through monetary means and under the table deals. Nonetheless the media actually served as a counter argument to my thoughts and actually helped me remembered in why I vote for what I vote for. As you can see from most of the media in the last 6 years it has served towards democrats and more government interference. Now don’t get me wrong things like the patriot act are necessary for the safety of our nations
By joining many television programs, Trump has lots of supporters and he got many benefits in the campaign. As far as I am concerned, Trump got advantages through media in the campaign.
In 2012, Barack Obama and his opponent Romney had used several social media platforms, including Spotify, Pinterest and Instagram. Although many users expressed their annoyance about the campaign advertisement, the figures never lie: Barack Obama’s Facebook page had attracted over 30 million likes since his time as a presidential nominee (Lee). In 2008, President Obama’s campaign was also praised for its innovative use of social media to engage young voters. According to a survey by Pew Research, 39% of American adults have used social media to do at least one of eight political or civic activities and younger users are more likely to post their thoughts on politics than those who were 50 and older (Computer Business Review). Therefore, social media helps

There would be far less public opinion, less controversial subjects scattered, and less groups of supporting parties putting forth their efforts to stand up for certain things. Sure, these examples would still occur, but the effect of social media allows these topics and acts to spread like wildfire.
