As mentioned, major parts of the novel ar narrated through the mother’s purpose of browse. The illustration of Harriet could also be related to a feminist purpose of browse. for instance, by the storyteller specializing in Harriet and her development throughout the book the reader learns regarding her background, her goals in life and her every thought and feeling. The Fifth child, Holmquist explains that there 's a “new feminist movement” that focuses on “social and psychological pressures old by women at intervals the nuclear family”, rather than “the legal aspect of wedding because the recent feminists” did, often exactly what the storyteller can by narrating through Harriet’s experiences. She faces social pressure by wanting the conventional family and not what her friend’s would like, as ar mentioned any on. and he or she or he faces psychological pressure throughout her maternity with mount, once she is that the questioned by the people around her as a result of she believes that there is one factor wrong with the baby, though describing but the birth of mount affects the family on its whole, the novel strictly focuses on but Harriet experiences it.
