The sun's beating down on me and sweats dripping down my face. I set up for a throw down at second, the pitcher starts her wind up and I take two steps closer to second. Our catcher set up for the outside pitch, but misses her spot and hits down the middle. The hitter loads up and swings hitting the ball to our second baseman. The play totally changes at that point three seconds of time. Now instead of a throw down steal were turning a double play. I run as fast as I could from my spot at short my cleats digging deep into the dirt pumping my arms to run faster to get to second, I watch the ball get with the picture, i thought is was going to get through our second baseman but at the very last second she dives out landing hard on the ground but manages to stop the ball. Im at the base and yell “flip two! Flip two”! She does, but my footwork is backwards and I hit the base with my left foot, leaving my body open to get slid into. I catch the ball from the second baseman to get the force out at two and jump up to try to avoid the slide, but the player from the opposing team put her cleats up to break up the double play. I feel her metal spikes dig into my chins, a sharp stabbing pain flies through my body. The ball goes flying out of my hand a rocket to the fence over the first baseman's head. I come down and on the player from the opposing team and my head smacks against the ground. Pain …show more content…
I hated sitting down watching tv or laying down and “relaxing”. I was always outside with my sisters playing catch or practicing ground balls or our swing for hours. I was a stress free, not caring, no problem kinda kid. I had a ton of goals, i wanted to graduate high school with a softball scholarship to college, break all the school records their and then get recruited to play pro for Team USA. After the concussion all of that changed. Now i have psoriasis, stress, anxiety, i had no motivation, and my goals completely
Then I called the change up. The batter had been so far in front of it it was really funny. The tying run was up to bat. The first pitch he had hit the ball far into right field.
Each inning went by in a flash until the 5th inning, Mitty had tacked on a couple of runs making it 3-0 Mitty. Then my team came to bat and stayed at bat for a while scoring 5 runs making it 5-3 Serra. The 6th inning moved along swiftly with Mitty scoring two more runs tying the game at 5. Bottom of the 6th inning Mitty had brought in a new pitcher, a tall right hander who threw pretty hard.
Here we were the last tournament of the year. We were in the championship. Towards the end of the game I was on third base, we were down one run then the worst hitter on the team came up, Owen. Of course he hit it right to the first baseman. Unfortunately we got second.
What/ who helped motivate you to participate in different hobbies again? 7. Has your role in life (family, work, school, etc.) changed from before the TBI? If so,
The umpire calls, “Strike one!” I thought it wasn’t a strike, but I went with it because I didn’t want to get into a fight. I step out of the box, fix my batting gloves and take another swing the get back in. The next pitch comes and you could hear a “DING”. I swung and hit it down the right field line.
Seventh game, bottom of the 10th and the Chicago Cubs were up 8-7 against the Cleveland Indians with 2 outs. One out, one pitch, one play and it could happen, for the first time in 108 years we could win. One home run and we would lose it all. My dad and I nervously glance at the bases, one hitter, and one player on first. Mike Montgomery throws the pitch.
I sprinted for the ball that was bouncing towards the middle of the field. I jumped with the ball to make a header. Crack! I was on the ground and I remember feeling a sharp pain on my forehead. I felt like someone threw a rock at my face.
I immediately filled with remorse and tensed up. My bat suddenly got heavy with guilt. The catcher dropped the ball and fell to her knees clutching her back. I went limp and looked around confused and shocked. I didn’t know what to do so I started walking towards the dugout.
A failure can be a downward spiral or a setback turning into a benefit. When athletes experience head trauma, they only recover a little, which might end their career early or other times people never recover. In the case of my four month concussion, there are residual mental and physical problems. For me, this challenge helped me develop as a person than will work harder and strive for the best in my academics. Running onto the field, I can 't believe we won it - the High School Girls ' Rugby Championship.
In the play Appropriate that was put on at Colorado State University, is a play about the Lafayette's, an dysfunctional family that gets mixed up in racial situation. The purpose of putting on this play was to show how with all the racial tension going on around the world, everyone has their only views on what happens. This also showed how being put in to situation, like the Lafayette’s were put in, make it a lot harder to deal with. During the play they show how different people look and react are racism. The director was showing how different nationalities and religions, try to deal with situation even if it all blows up.
The clock is now down to 3:00 minutes and coach subs me into the game. I immediately run onto the field and spot my team on a fast break with two defenders on his tail. I’m just able to catch up to one of the trailing defenders and lower my shoulder into his side and knock him over. The sound resonates like a drum and he falls to the ground allowing my teammate to
On March 28th, I had the pleasure of attending the Broadway show called “The Play That Goes Wrong,” located at the Lycuem Theatre on 149 West 45th Street. On this particular Tuesday evening, I just had a vibe that something wrong was going to happen in this play – shockingly. I did believe this play will truly be memorable judging by the fun quirk of the show’s name. After watching the performance for about two hours, I can conclude that this play went beyond my expectation as its set disasters and characters amusingly caught the attention of me and the rest of the audience.
Then next thing I know is there is two people in front of me before I am up to bat. So I get in my bag to get my batting gloves, helmet, and everything else I needed to go hit. I stand towards the front of the dugout till it is my turn to take some practice swings in the on-deck circle. The batter that was up got walked and now it was my time to do my pre-hit routine in the batters box. I took three swings, then stretch, then talked to people in the crowd to not sike myself out before
At first base I then watch our coach give the sign to hit to the next batter, he then turns to give me the steal sign. As I watch the pitcher start her motion all I can think about is running my hardest to get to the next bag. As the pitch is thrown I race my way and slide into the bag and hear to umpire scream “safe”. My teammates are screeching with excitement. As I get up off the sleek dirt I can taste nothing but small rocks with bland dirt carefully compiled into my mouth.
I have become very fond of new ideas and new strategies to take on life. But my mom’s concussion has made me into a new person. I had to help more around the house, not making as much noise while being in the house and in the car, and being more responsible and taking control over situations like shopping. My mother is still going through this concussion, but she has been getting better. Let me tell you picking up our house is not my cup of tea, but with my sister's help we can pick it up easily.
