Downsizing in term of management is an intentional reduction in the size of a workforce at all staffing levels in order to survive a downturn, improve efficiencies, or become a more attractive candidate for acquisition or merger. Used often as a euphemism for indiscriminately firing the employees . The downsizing process is affecting the organizations and employees by changes in individual responsibilities and the work process. When there are layoffs, employees are required to do more with less input and source. In order to keep the organization functioning effectively despite fewer staff members, employees need to take other roles and responsibilities and ineffectively doing the work or task given. In simpler words, delayering is a process to reduce the size of business hierarchy, especially in terms of a reduction management . Delayering process will creates more flatter organisational structure consequentially it lead to greater workloads on managers. On a brighter side, process of delayering will reduces cost and the chain of commands. Thus the decision making will be more effective and quicker. Despite that, managers whom remains may fear of losing their jobs and will reduces jobs securities. Plus, delayering may results in outsourcing of some functions where manager responsibilities are much bigger and they have to bear all the burden themselves. Not only it will increase the levels of stress, the outcomes and decision making may not be as good quality as when working with more people. The article reviewed that the impacts of downsizing and delayering process on managers, first and foremost is related to managers ability to develop and grow in the organisation. Fundamentally, workplace bullying can be in many forms such as sarcasm, shouting or swearing the underlinings which comprise under a verbal abuse or even practical jokes, especially if they repeatedly aim to the same person. Refering to the Fair Work Act 2009 – Section 789 FD a workplace bullying occurs when an individual or a group of individuals again and adain behaves unreasonably towards a same person or same group of people at work . In addition to the situation, the behaviour creates a risk to health and safety of the employees. There are five categories of workplace bullying consist of threats to professional status, threats to personal standing, isolation, overwork and destabilisation . However, employees must be able to understand and distinguish the difference of workplace bullying in order to be judge as bullying. Nevertheless of the sources, workplace bullying have put a massive negative impact on organisation. The company with high rate of bullying cost them higher turnover and low productivity since the employees keep being suppres by the perperators.
