These five factors include extroversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, neuroticism, and openness to experience (Hope, 2017). Within these primary factors of personality, Dr. Cal Lightman is hypothetically high on extroversion, low on agreeableness, middle-low on conscientiousness, high on neuroticism, and middle-high on openness to experience. Dr. Lightman is high on extroversion because he always wants to be the centre of attention, and tends to speak without thinking about it. This is evidenced by his interactions with his clients that he is trying to help, and how he displays eccentric behaviour in order for everyone to pay attention to him, even if it offends people. With these means, he is also very sociable, even if it gets him in trouble, and feeds off the energy of the people around him. Cal adjusts his behaviour to the situation or the individual, as well as socializes with anyone he considers interesting and is no stranger to being involved with known criminals. While Cal is high on extroversion, he is also high on neuroticism. Dr. Lightman gets upset easily, stresses and is anxious about his home, social, and work life, as well as insecure. This is demonstrated every time his mood shifts dramatically in a short period of time, gets jealous about the women in his life, and when he projects his feeling about a case, or something going on in his …show more content…
Cal Lightman is an extrovert, not agreeable, somewhat unconscionable, neurotic, and sort of open to experiences. He is also a compassionate character too though, which is not considered when it comes to the Big Five Trait Taxonomy. The Big Five only considers five main aspects of personality (extroversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, neuroticism, and openness to experience) and only defines and determines the extremes of them. There is not very much in-between or room for secondary personality traits, but it is valid and a good measure of basic personalities of all people, and considers both nature and nurture characteristics, which could be why it is a popular measure. Overall, the Big Five is an adequate measure of Dr. Cal Lightman's personality, but it does not consider all aspects of his personality. "We follow the truth here, right? No matter the cost to our egos or our wallets" (Dr. Cal Lightman, Season 2, Episode

The concept of personality has fascinated psychologists for years. Allport proposed the hierarchy of traits – cardinal, central, and secondary traits (Allport, 1945). Cattell also proposed his theory, the sixteen dimensions of human personality (Cattell, 1944). Jung developed a type-based theory of personality, with different dichotomous personality categories, which was further developed by Myers and Briggs in 1962 to produce the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (Ford, 2013). Some psychologists have even argued that personality does not exist; that people change behaviour over time and across various situations.
This paper is a very brief overview of the author’s personality type as determined by the Jung Typology Test. The test resulted in the rarest personality form, INFJ. Each letter has been broken down into its individual meaning, also known as “preferences.” These letters stand for introverted, intuitive, feeling, and judging. Included with Carl Jung’s findings are definitions given by David Keirsey which group the INFJ personality into his NF category, then further describes them as “Counselors.”

Jung’s (1923) idea about extroversion-introversion was the starting point for more scientific investigation in the personality traits domain in the early twentieth century. Jung proposed the “duality” in human personality. He distinguished two schools of thought in philosophy, namely idealists and realists and claimed that idealist consider the subject of perception as a base for knowledge while realists believe that the object of perception is the base of knowledge. Having studied the background of these schools of thought, Jung claimed that a comprise exists between philosophy and psychology in which realists are more extroverts while idealists are more introverts. He further differentiated these two distinctions by characteristics that identify
