The recent trend of Americans carrying bottled water can be explained by its convenience, as it can be purchased in vending machines and grocery stores, and is a healthier choice than soda. In addition, carrying bottled water is a good idea to maintain one’s hydration throughout the day (“Tap Water or Bottled?,” 2006). Although dehydration, or loss of water from the body, is not a concern for many Americans, people who exercise without drinking, sick children and the elderly are susceptible to its effects. Affected individuals will experience thirst, headache, fatigue, and dizziness. In addition, if exercise is undertaken under conditions of dehydration a person may experience muscle cramp or ache (“The ‘8 glasses per day’ rule,” 2006).

There is no problems with drinking tap water, this tap water has gone through so many processes to make sure you are receiving the cleanest water possible. These processes are made to ensure that all guidelines are followed and to make sure there is nothing in the water that can harm you. All of our cells, organs and tissues depend on water to help regulate homeostasis. Homeostasis is when our cells seek and maintain a condition of equilibrium or stability internally as it deals with environmental external changes. Because water plays many important roles in the overall maintenance of the body, some of the functions of it include: regulates body temperature, carries nutrients and oxygen to cells, lubricates joints, helps dissolve minerals and other nutrients , and most importantly it also moistens tissues like the mouth, eyes and nose. Because the water in our bloodstream plays an important role in equally transporting cells and minerals throughout the body, when an individual is not getting enough water the cells in the body will begin to shrivel up and malfunction. In an occurrence of water intoxication, what happens is that an individual may consume too much water without giving the body the equal amount of nutrients to counterbalance the water consumed. This post is going to be on an extremely important topic, diabetes. 1 in 4 people with diabetes, don’t even know they have it! This topic truly impacted me because both of my grandfathers that have already passed away had diabetes, so honestly diabetes is something that could be in my future. Recently, I read Sugar Nation by Jim O’Connell and I was pretty shocked from reading it and it opened my eyes to how severe the diabetes problem is in the world. The book is basically Mr. O’Connell’s recollection of being diagnosed pre-diabetic, his journey to find more information on treatment and how effective it is, and Mr. O’Connell’s father passing away from not taking care of his diabetes.

There are many researchers in the world that are trying to figure out how much water you should drink in a day. Since, water is 60 percent of your body weight you still need to drink plenty of water to stay hydrated. Studies show that women should be drinking about 2.2 liters a day and men should be drinking 3 liters a day. Also, how much water you drink a day depends on your health, how active you are and where you live. With that said, it is important that people are drinking the proper amount of water each day to stay hydrated and to stay in good shape. Everyone should carry around a water bottle with them so they know that they are staying hydrated so they do not get the effect of dehydration.

Abraham Maslow, who was an American psychologist created a hierarchy of needs. There are five levels, with the basic needs at the bottom. He explains that if the basic needs are not satisfied we cannot move up the pyramid, despite a few instances (Lilienfeld et al., 2016). The first level is physiological needs which is satisfying hunger, thirst, and fatigue. Physiological needs influence us because if we are not satisfying our hunger, we can lose weight, or be malnourished. If we are not satisfying out thirst, we can be dehydrated. If we are not satisfying our fatigue, it could lead to further problems. This level is greatly dependent on your financial situation and if you have access to food and money. The second
