Abstract:
Availability of drinking water began to hit the people hard more specially in the urban areas due to rapid increase of population and unplanned development of urban areas. After India’s independence in 1947, the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) was established in 1956 by the government of Assam to fulfill the requirement of drinking water. This department was entrusted with the responsibility of providing safe drinking water unreliable nature of public water supply in most cities including Guwahati, people have to depend either on their own sources, or on some commercial agencies which is in fact not possible for all the dwellers on a regular basis. Therefore, the present study focuses on the sources of drinking water and

during dry season, when water supply becomes irregular and water level of the wells go down. The area faces several problems in respect to water supplied by the municipality and water scarcity due to deteriorating groundwater conditions. Some of the problems related to the ground water are irregular water supply especially during the dry season, deterioration of water condition, reduction in water level, water logging during monsoon period, pollution from sewerage, unplanned extraction of ground water, high iron content, etc. Many private agencies have also come up to cater to the ever-increasing demand of water in the city. Although, these private water supply agencies fulfill the demand to a great extent but most of them operate illegally. Over exploitation of ground water by such private agencies caused public dissatisfaction in some localities of the …show more content…
Access to clean and protected drinking water has been treated as a fundamental right for the people in India. The measures to be adopted to reduce the problems can be as follows:
• The ongoing construction of the new water supply projects should be constructed in such a way that it provides 24x7 water supplies to the residents and which would significantly improve the current standard of living.
• The Panbazar water supply plant is the most important in relation to the supply of drinking water but it has serious defects in the areas of its management as well as infrastructure. Government should take necessary steps for the development of the plant.
• Due to leakages in the pipelines; muddy and polluted water enter the leakages and the water that reaches the consumers are very poor in quality and not healthy for use. So it should be checked timely and hence the defective pipelines should be changed immediately.
• The concerned agencies may be private or public should notice and react to the problem of people who while distributing water;
• There is inadequacy of water supply, especially during the dry and winter seasons and flow of water is found to be almost nil at the hilly areas in comparison to the plain
“The American people have a right to air that they and their children can breathe without fear” — Lyndon Baines Johnson (Pollution). One should be able to inhale the air. It’s a fundamental necessity for everyone. Filling the lungs to their satisfaction and breathing out in relief. The cycle continues day and night.
( Document F) Since the government has not raised the prices, I feel that the citizens aren't aware of how much water they truly consume. If they raided the price, I feel that Citizens would be more cautious about using water. I also feel that the government should put a limit on how much water a citizen can use. If they cap at a certain amount everyone would have enough water to
The city of Flint, Michigan and its residents have been suffering from their own tap water for months. When a resident turns on a water faucet in their home, the water emits a strange smell and the color comes out brown. It turns out that water contains a high amount of iron and lead. What made the tap water contaminated? Why is the city unable to obtain clean tap water despite being under one hundred miles away from the Great Lakes?
Both the state and federal governments have just declared a state of emergency for Flint, Michigan, yet (“even though” instead of “yet”?) the people of Flint have been without clean drinking water since 2014. After switching the city’s drinking water supply from Detroit’s water to the Flint river, lead infected the water that Flint’s residents rely on due to aging water pipes and polluted river water. This water crisis has not received the attention it requires. In order to solve this problem, it is important to understand how this problem started, how people are impacted day to day, and the long term consequences of this crisis.
”official say that at least 1,300 people have lost their water in and around East Porterville”.(source 2) People pay more for their drinking water and other water like the shower and sink.” An investigation into the business having to adapt to the law and water prices having elevated for buyers.(source 3) The farmer are saxicolous
Has the lack of water supply affected your life in the past three years? California has been in a drought recently, and there has been a great decrease in citizen water possession. The state should regulate water usage because people are using too much water, and it is affecting other people. There have been many cases of water shortages in communities. “For Angelica Gallegos, the worst part has been going without a shower for five months.”
Due to negligence of state regulation of water, people have
1 Fracking and Natural Gas Fracking in the United States is a good idea because natural gas is widely used to fuel vehicles heat businesses and homes, and as energy for kitchen stoves and other appliances, natural gas; however, it is extremely flammable and has a tendency to be exceedingly destructive. Natural gas has been widely used all over many states, Texas, Louisiana, Wyoming, Oklahoma, and Colorado use natural gas and the percentage has increased by about 7.5% in 2011, the total of natural gas being used in the U.S. has increased by 65%. Many, if not most, of these states use natural gas for their vehicles, their heating and many kitchen appliances. Manufacturers offer factory built, natural gas trucks, vans, Public buses and school buses, there are
The text allows for the reader to understand what the water crisis is, and how it is impacting our daily lives. The text also gives the reader multiple different examples of water control in the United States. But, because of all the corporate greed, corporations are ruining our natural resource of water by creating it into a commodity and selling it. This book gives great insight on how corrupt the government can be when they want to make a cheap buck. Again, “Water is a necessity of life that touches everyone in their own homes” (Snitow and Kaufman, 1) water is a right to all humans, not a commodity for business
Due to the river being connected to many other rivers and lakes, the contaminated water travels downstream and contaminates the water in the other water sources. This is ongoing and makes it harder for the treatment of the water. Propose one possible rehabilitation technique. A rehabilitation technique that could be put in place at this water source would be to enforce harsher penalties for polluting the water and educating the public on the consequences of the pollution.
People complain about pollution from factories, cars, global warming, and the melting of polar ice caps, yet many people disregard the dangerous that come with fracking. Fracking is the process of injecting liquid at high pressure into subterranean rocks, and/or boreholes to force open existing fissures and extract oil or gas. Fracking is causing an epidemic economically and environmentally. Fracking is continuously destroying the earth day by day. From the endless fracking today’s economy is depleting.
When coal and other minerals were extracted from underground, they emited several metal waste which was harmful for the water. It is evident that the Indutrial Revolution caused a lot of evnviromental problems for individuals. Without social protest it is doubtful politicians would have responded to the environmental crisis…in the late 1960’s and ealry 1970’s (Halbert, par. 1). Individuals were conserned about their health and congress decided to pass the Clean Water Act of 1972 to reduce water
Water resources problem areis a serious challenge to the social and economic sustainable development around the whole world. With regards to the predator of fresh water shortage in global scale, Canada also unfortunately falls to its prey. Blessed with abundant fresh water in lakes, streams, rivers and most importantly –the underground water, Canada has long taken it for granted that fresh water supply will never be their concern. However, the approaching of fresh water shortage has only until recently woken Canadians from their dreams. When Alberta Environment and Sustainable Resource Development implemented underground water tapping programs and the Munk School of Global Affairs held a symposium themed on mapping underground water, federal and public concerns are fomenting.
Water is an essential need for the human body. And the way you consume water is also a major factor. There is no problems with drinking tap water, this tap water has gone through so many processes to make sure you are receiving the cleanest water possible. These processes are made to ensure that all guidelines are followed and to make sure there is nothing in the water that can harm you. Although all these processes are done ome people may still disagree and say that drinking tap water is not the “best” for our bodies.
MAJOR PROBLEM: SINGAPORE WATER SHORTAGE ISSUE Short history of Singapore: Singapore gained independence on 9th August in 1965 from the merger with Malaysia. After its separation from Malaysia, Singapore faces major problem in many areas. Singapore is a small island of area size of 718.3km square. Given her limited land capacity, Singapore face a severe lack of natural resources such as water. In the ’60s and ’70s, Singapore was heavily reliant on imported water from Malaysia and faced urbanisation challenges such as polluted rivers, water shortages and widespread flooding.
