Speeding and Teen Fatalities Speeding is becoming an increasingly large problems among teenage drivers. from 2000 to 2011 accidents caused by speeding increased from thirty to thirty three percent. The leading cause of death in teenagers is automobile accidents. (NHTSA) Seventy five percent of teen drivers crash due to critical errors like going to fast for road conditions. Speeding is a primary cause in a third of fatal crashes involving teen drivers, according to the Governors Highway Safety Association (GHSA).

Every 15 minutes a teenager will die due to drunk driving. In the world, on average, 96 teens will die every day. The number of deaths would increase if the drinking age was lowered. The drinking age should not be changed. The age should stay the same.

Statistics show the percent of sixteen year olds that got into an accident was significantly less than those of twenty-five year olds. Many states, however are concerned for the safety of teens and believe that driving should be raised to eighteen as a minimum age. The age requirement for teen drivers should not be raised because it increases responsibility skills, and allows teenagers to have more experience in driving. Being able to depend by ownself and be responsible is key to growing as a teenager. Driving solo and doing activities helps a teenager achieve that.

Older drivers, over the age of sixty-five, are not only a threat to others- but to themselves. There are several ways that this can be resolved. Not all of these are particularly kind, as they would generalize the population and limit people because of something they cannot control. As people age, they tend to lose cognitive and physical capability. In some cases the drivers vision and hearing can become impaired making it more difficult to focus on what is going on around them.

Should the Legal Driving age be increased in the United States In the United states the driving age is 17 but many different people have many different opinions on the question “should the driving age should be increased or decreased”. Driving is a big responsibility many people believe that driving is a start of an adult, but in society people thinks it’s a lesson of responsibility and adulthood. I believe that teen’s cause more car crashes because they’re new to driving and don’t know the full responsibilities to the rules of the road. There are a lot of youngsters who believe that driving should not be restricted to a specific age. For them, anybody can drive when he learns to drive. For most of the adolescents driving is a source of fun, thrill and never ending enjoyment. In many countries like Russia the driving age has raised to 21. Many people die every day in road accidents and majority of them are of teen-agers.

So establishing the raised driving age, again would be redundant. In conclusion, raising the driving age would be pointless. Delaying the inevitability of car crashes and dependence on another driver are just a few of the many reasons why we should not raise it. It’s just perfect the way it is.

Our lives are unbelievably valuable so we should do everything rational to avoid deaths. Nowadays, teenagers are specifically dangerous due to their recklessness and they are the ones that are more likely to commit car accidents. Delaying when they get their driver’s license, the roads will be more secure. If the age of driving is increased, the amount of car crashes will decrease. For instance, teens think that they’re fearless, which is why they take silly risks unlike mature drivers.

“Overall, 34% of teen texters ages 16-17 say they have texted while driving, that translates into 26% of all American teens ages 16-17” (Madden and Lenhart 1). The age to start driving is 16 but that should change because they should wait to drive until they are mature and ready to drive. Cell phones become a huge problem that it is not allowed in class because teachers would think that they are cheating. Throughout the year, almost all car accidents involves a teenager and it is mostly because they are busy on their phone that is why the age limit for driving need to go up to at least the age 20. Sadly, it is not only teenagers that text and drive older adult that will this even in front of younger people in the car.

Teens practicing their driving more in general, as well as having more experience in potential serious scenarios, would greatly help the cause. Also, teens discussing serious local accidents can make them more aware of just how possible it is for this dilemma to become their own dilemma. A foolproof way to make teens drive more safely is for their parents to make them pay their own tickets and fines (#9). Ultimately, one of the biggest influences for teens is their family, and how their families drive is no exception. Passengers are a huge problem in regards to teen driving.
