Genetta,
Incontrovertibly, the two indicators that you discussed in your post are extremely important characteristics that a drug smuggler may exhibit. Absolutely, the drug courier profile is a set of characteristics that are found to be distinctive in drug smugglers. Although the profiles that law enforcement utilizes could implicate innocent people, they are a guideline for the officers to use so they can stop and question individuals to determine if they are in fact smuggling drugs. At the very least, if an individual has nothing to hide, then a few questions should not offend them, however; these profile indicators are in place to help catch the criminals that are smuggling drugs. Moreover, a person that has an unusual itinerary such as,
Some people were promoting smuggling such as document 8. While, some people were against smuggling like document three. However, document eight shows that some people began to join in the smuggling activities to gain some wealth. Furthermore, some people prioritized monetary gain over public image. In addition, people cared about money and wealth.
As a REACH member, I had the privilege of witnessing a support group for substance abusers and alcoholics. One man, in particular, spoke of his addiction to cocaine. I listened to his speech that described his introduction to the substance, the hardships he faced, and his slow but successful recovery. I, though, had one question in mind: to what measures will users and even sellers go for drugs? Sudhir Venkatesh’s Gang Leader For a Day: A Rogue Sociologist Takes to the Streets answers my question.
In the document, Evans introduces the “information note”, which are statements from members of Los Zetas. The statements summarize to saying that the police pretend to act as if they do not know what the drug
The video that I have chosen is Jayz War on Drugs (Epic Fail). This video informs you on how the war on drugs was started by Richard Nixon in 1971. It also describes how the war on drugs had a negative effect on the African Americans rather it be their families, communities, and schools. The movie The House I live in, describes the war on drugs as black hats vs white hats basically the good guys against the bad guys. In both videos it was discussed how poor neighborhoods were the target for drug bust areas.
This lead to him in finding other ways to find a way to earn money. What they do have in common is who they associate themselves with, both were introduced to the drug trade because of someone they know. Their previous histories may have led them to follow that path. The environmental psychology is what caused them to enter the trade. By learning the basics of psychology and then investigating more in depth about it, it is possible to find out what the signs are before they occur.
Contraband in correctional facilities is a security risk for administrators. Jails in Correctional Facilities routinely has a wide range of security procedures. While Contraband is increasingly Rising, staff members and inmates are at risk. New policies need to be implemented to reduce contraband. 1. “African-American crime groups used the drug trade as much as their Irish, Jewish, and Italians predecessors used bootlegging” (Abadinsky, 2013, p.170). It wasn’t until the time of the Vietnam War that black crime groups were exposed and succeeded in the heroin business. Prior to the war Abadinsky (2013) explains that “black crime groups were dependent on American Mafia Families for their heroin” (p.170). In time, black crime groups were able to conduct business with suppliers in Thailand, without the American Mafia.
The 2014 National Drug Threat Assessment (NDTA) Summary discourses evolving expansions associated with the trafficking and use of main illicit drugs abuse. The U.S. seizures of illegal substances in shipment exceeded 1,626 metric tons, demonstrating that DTOs have great succeed in shipping thousand tons of cocaine, marijuana, methamphetamine, heroin, and MDMA into the United States each year. (DEA 2014) There are exceptional smuggling and shipping methods related with each drug type, but drug seizure statistics and federal, state, and local law enforcement reporting shows that smuggling overland and transportation by vehicle surpass all other methods of smuggling combined. The 2014 National Drug Control Strategy, in which has had very little
The covert role and the overt role were the two research roles that Adler used in this field research study. The covert role allowed Adler and her husband to interact with people who would otherwise have refused to speak to them; the nature of their research had to be disguised from lay outsiders and academicians. This role offered the advantage of gaining access to unapproachable people while avoiding researcher effects, but it prevented them from asking necessary, probing questions and from recording conversations. The overt role was used when Adler felt like new people trusted her; some people were informed that Adler and her husband were involved in a study of dealing and smuggling. A concern that Adler had was related to the reliability of data; all conclusions on independent sources and accounts were carefully verified because there is a hidden and conflictual nature of the drug-dealing world.
The ability to be able to have so much power and influence over so many things that affect our lives is inconceivable. From simple activities of a normal daily life to how a country can run and how it may flourish, the effects that drug trafficking has grown to new heights. The war on drugs has long been a struggle in many different countries and goes across the entire world. While some countries have been able to limit the trafficking, others struggle to contain it and simply cannot stop it. Drug trafficking has a great power and influence over how many things function such as the economy, daily living, and politics, but could be combatted with different strategies such as legalisation.
Transporting drugs is an issue towards the U.S. and labeled it as an act of criminalization. Immigrants in all foreign countries established the mark of trafficking drugs, which deserves severe civil-immigration consequences. “Congress expanded the class with the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1952, 16 the Anti-Drug Abuse Act of 1988, 17 the Immigration Act of 1990, 18 and the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996” (“Policing Immigrant,” 2015). Although, considering the issue of drug transportation the government should make the criminal law enforcement stricter by increasing jail time. Applying to this law enforcement there should also be high quality x-rays to expose any vehicle transporting to America.
The first issue, drug trafficking has been around for many, many decades now. It is proving more than ever to be an intense problem to maintain a handle on within the criminal justice system. Drug trafficking
Interdiction is one of the basic methods for yet important due to its effects on drug trafficking. The reason why interdiction should be improved as because the agents are trained to stop even of drug flow and terrorist attacks. Due to the fact they are highly trained and equipped it increases their chance to detect illegal substances. Improving interdiction can detect and allow agents to arrest those who carry illegal drugs. This also gives them the opportunity to catch those who process and produce illegal drugs.
Money laundering serves two purposes when it comes to terrorist activity. It conceals the illegal origin of the money and the illegal destination of the funds (Unger, 2013, p.21). Research has shown and experts agree the sale and trade of drugs is a sizeable financial contributor to terrorist organizations. For example, the Taliban profited from the trafficking of opium and taxing the drug in areas under its control. These funds were then used to support terrorist organizations like Al Qaeda (Unger, 2013, p.22).
1. State the problem as simply and clearly as you can. A 19 years drug girl dealer escaped from prison in 1974, and caught 34 years later as a fugitive. In her time out of prison, she became a model citizen.
