The “Dry World” refers to the North African and Southwest Asian region. This name does not illustrate the region's diverse climate and landscape. Across North Africa and into eastern Iran lies a vast desert land. Whereas in the Atlas Mountains, Algeria, the lowlands of Morocco, and Tunisia the Mediterranean climate allows for a lot of flora . Needless to say, Southwest Asia and North Africa are more than desert—the humid and elevated areas provide a lot of biodiversity. One would think that these elevated areas are densely forested. That is not the case. As a result of human settlement the landscape has deteriorated. Although the deforestation is not as severe as in some parts of the Greater Antilles it is still problematic. Other examples …show more content…
The richer nations of the region—Saudi Arabia and Israel—have more resources available to plan and adjust to climate change; whereas poorer countries—such as Syria, Yemen and Sudan—have no such resources. All nations in the region have become aware of the possible effects of climate change. Knowing that many nations have made ongoing efforts to reverse the effects of human modification. Reforestation efforts are being made by Israel and Syria, meanwhile in Lebanon a reserve by the name of Shouf Biosphere Reserve aims to protect endangered mammals and rare cedar trees. The deforestation in the humid and elevated lands became severe enough so that it resulted in a “long, slow deterioration of the region’s water supplies and in accelerated soil erosion (Rowntree 220).” Deforestation’s sole benefit to the region is the land that is gained for possible development of buildings and (early on) the use of wood for power. At this point in time, it only has negative effects because it damages the water supply and takes away from biodiversity in the area. What’s more, the dwindling water could become extremely problematic because water is used as a transportation resource. Overgrazing goes hand in hand with deforestation. It results when farm animals such as cattle or sheep continuously eat shrubs and the like in the area. Because overgrazing leads to deforestation it has the same negative
I agree with David Sedlak’s message, “4 Ways we can Avoid a Catastrophic Drought,” because it was not only what he said but also the way he presented it. He used things like examples and graphs during his presentation. The four ways that he came up with were so well thought out that it would be hard to not understand what he wanted to do. Now I am not really sure if his plans will work but the facts that were presented by him were so full proof to me that it kind of takes the thought of “if it will work” away. The only thing that I did not hear him talk about was the way he was going to carry out the plans he had; I am not sure if I just did not hear it or read it
We typically do not give much thought to what we call “home”. We perceive home as somewhere we go after a long day, somewhere we can enjoy the simpler pleasures in life away from the restlessness of work. However in The Droughtlanders by Carrie Mac, it challenges our general notion of home for an unorthodox one—a notion that a home goes outside of comfort zones, rather than inside them. At face value, the Keys have everything: it is rich, secure, and organized. But by glimpsing outside its walls, we discover that those qualities can bring more problems than we see at first glance.
A more long term effect would be stunted tree growth because trees need sunlight to grow
It’s amazing to find out that the Las Vegas strip uses three percent of Nevada’s water supply. The land surrounding Las Vegas is dry and is in a desert like state so it must obtain water from elsewhere. The closest water source is the Hoover Dam, which is connected with Lake Mead. The Hoover Dam provides water to three different states. Due to the constant use of water its water supply is depleting faster than it can be restored.
When this happens it causes adverse effects on the environment. It can be done in a variety of ways from cutting to burning. Either way mass deforestation is bad and needs to stop before it is too late. One culprit of our deforestation is
Deforestation has led to another of many reasons of global warming and low rainfall, which can affect crops for farmers. How it affects resources, services and finance and etc- In resources, deforestation provides a lot of different type of oil, like palm oil and lumber, cattle ranching, farming, buildings, paper, homes, furniture and urbanization. Even though it decreases a natural resources, many different types of other resources are created as a result. Since it provides people with enterprise, it can benefit the distribution of trade with other countries, and increase job opportunities.
California drought is a major crisis since 1977. California has broken the record for the longest period of days without rain. Did you know that twenty-five million Californians depend on other states for water? In addition, in some regions of California water can lead to a drought run out. Including in the western part of California is abnormally dry due to the lack of rain and snow.
Goodbye Green: Deforestation in America Small beads of water hang precariously from the tips of wide green leaves over 100 feet above the ground. Every inch of space on the way down is packed with color, from the vivid greens of leaves, mosses, and vines, to the rainbow of orchids and bromeliads hanging from the interwoven webs of branches. In addition to their natural beauty, forests are a vital part of the Earth’s natural environment. They are home to some of the most biodiverse conditions on the planet and are a source of materials used by humans everywhere: food, shelter, medicine, and more.

Introduction: Forest are found all around the world. There many kinds of them. There are many benefits of them as well. Forests provide us with trees, food, some of medicines ingredients, wood, they are homes for many creatures, and many other benefits. But people are killing these environments with deforestation.
They also serve as water catchment areas. Effects of Deforestation Despite their importance, it has been estimated that more than 50 million acres of rainforests are destroyed or seriously degraded every year. 1. Deforestation causes soil erosion, landslides and flash floods During the rain seasons and it rains for a long period of time, the top layer of soil loosens and slide down which cause landslides.
These effects of deforestation are obviously very bad, but there is one major positive effect of cutting down trees: it will help the economy. In developing countries, cutting down trees and selling their lumber could potentially become a major source of revenue for the government. In addition, they will also have more space to build things such as farms, which will boost the economy by giving more people
The “Dry World” refers to the North African and Southwest Asian region. This name does not portray the entirety of the region because the reality is the region has an incredibly diverse climate (and therefore land).Across North Africa and into eastern Iran lies a vast desert land. Whereas in the Atlas Mountains and the lowlands of Morocco, Algeria, and Tunisia the Mediterranean climate allows for a lot of flora which makes the area resemble southern Spain. Needless to say, Southwest Asia and North Africa are more than desert—the humid and elevated areas provide a lot of biodiversity. One would think that these elevated areas are densely forested.
Hence, deforestation increases. This is another effect of overpopulation that impacts the worsening of the environment [2]. For example decreased forest size increases the amount of carbon in the environment. More specifically, deforestation affects the wildlife and results in biodiversity loss and species extinction [1].
