Whenever there is a clash or a disagreement relating to a situation, conflict is bound to occur. There are two types of conflict, functional and dysfunctional. Functional conflict can be described as a non-aggressive form of conflict which allows ideas to flow as well as stimulate creativity. In this scenario, people may disagree but still work together to find a solution. Dysfunctional conflict can be described as an aggressive format of conflict where people would normally refuse to work towards a particular solution and therefore the task indeed becomes compromised. Conflict in a working environment has its advantages and disadvantages. Some advantages may include the stimulation of creative thinking and helping people to learn from one another as well to undertstand a problem better. Disadvantages may include behaviour such as violence and it could hamper with the productivity of the business. There are various reasons for conflict such as inclusivity and cultural diversity, poor communication, resource allocation and values and ethics. But it is of utmost importance on how conflict is manages or dealt with. In order to manage conflict we should be able to deal with changes, have the ability to think strategically and we should be tolerating towards the inclusivity and cultural diversity. Conflict was evident in The Internship during one of the challenges assigned by Mr. Chetty. Billy had forgotten to log his calls when working on phones for google. There was inner conflict with the group when Billy decided to leave because he assumed he had let the group down and he was worthless in the team. The team handled this situation perfectly and decided that the way they started this as a group, they will end it as a group. Since Nick was a close friend of Billy, he confronted Billy and spoke about the situation that occurred. He motivated Billy to join hands again with the group because the group
Through many generations of teenagers they have all replicated the importance to our younger generation about how the choices and steps that now will shape us and who we are going to be in the future. “The Dark Horse” directed by James Napier Robertson, shows us the example of how we should always choose by what we think is right for us and not what other people want us to choose through peer pressure. “The Outsiders” by Graeme Lay replicates to us how when making choices we need to consider the effects on not just us, but to the ones that are around us, and to not be so selfish. It also talks about the main character ‘Karl Sikowsky” and how he had left his “lover” Justine due to his obsession to surfing and he does not want to live a reality
Jocks have made their way into our hearts in television and media all over the world. Stereotype of jocks are clear and is further displayed in the book “skud” and in the movie “The Breakfast Club”. The book “skud” by “Dennis Foon” is about four boys who attend the same high school all face problems relating to their understanding of what it means to be masculine. Tommy, a model student, is headed for the militar; Brad is looking at a hockey career; Andy, who has just secured an agent, may or may not break into the movie. These three have shared a common friendship that is challenged when Andy turns to a new kid, “ Shane” to teach him how to be a punk for an acting audition.
A group of misfits are brought together by t.j. and struggle to find their places in school. T.j. is convinced that a varsity jacket will help him fit in in the high school. Together they fight for dignity in the school.
Conflict has been around since the beginning of time: Satan tempting Adam and Eve, the Pharaoh and his enslavement of the Israelites, events such as World Wars 1 and 2, et cetera. Creating a conflict is the easy part. Realizing there is a conflict and finding a way to compromise is often the hard part. Unfair working conditions and inequality at Kohler factories in Wisconsin led to the conflict of the 1934 Kohler Strike. This resulted in the compromise of better working conditions.
Wayne Dyer once said, “Conflict cannot survive without your participation.” The rival gangs found in S.E. Hinton’s critically acclaimed novel, The Outsiders, the Greasers and Socs live by these terms as they face many perils considering the flame of deep hatred that separates both teenage groups. The novel is told in the perspective of 14-year-old Ponyboy, who is a part of the east side Greasers. In the novel, The Outsiders, the fault of the majority of the disaccord found in the community belongs to the Greasers. Most of the dilemmas found in the community are the Greasers’ fault as they could have avoided the Socs in the first place, avoiding all of the problems between them.
My group of Alysa, Julian and myself did a satire of teen rebellion, using the issues of drug use and addiction to technology. The satire skit took place on the show Dr.Bill, showcasing two cases of teen rebellion. The issue of teens doing drugs was shown as an exaggeration by displaying a teen who was addicted to “leafy green vegetables,” something usually seen as a healthy food, turned into a taboo habit. The mother’s name ‘Mary Jane’ and the son's name ‘Blaze’ are names for cannabis, using irony to poke fun at teens smoking marijuana.
Had they not loathed each other that much and just ignored the status symbol, they would have lived serenely to reach their adulthood. Had they tried to open up to the greasers (Ponyboy, Johnny, Dally and Two-Bit), they would have realised greasers are ordinary teenagers too. Cherry Valance and Marcia, in spite of their Socs identities, portray openness and acceptance towards the greasers. Subsequently, they comprehend not all greasers are dirty and uneducated; and Cherry, especially, learns about the adversities in a greaser’s life. We never know who we can learn something
A individual use of conflict should be used by many strategies impacted by the culture of the organization or institution but also by the personal beliefs and values. “The variables surrounding the conflict must be examined to understand and alter the choice of a particular behavioral approach to conflict”(Thomas,1976). When deciding the choice of outcome of a problem you should examine the facts and stay away from the assumptions. When managing conflicts, strategies should be utilized and reviewed so that the conflict can come to an collective solution. Some strategies to obtain during a conflict is the first strategy which is understanding that rushing to end the conflict will cause you to not be able to gather the appropriate information.
A conflict is known to be a common process within an organisation. In Tesco, conflicts are observed at different levels among members of groups and come of them are competing. In such type of conflict, group members pursue their concerns apart from the resistance of other employees. It may involve employees pushing their view points at the expense of others while maintaining the organisational resistance to the actions and activities of other members within the group. For instance, it may be observed that one employee feel his voice and opinions about some matter are being not considered by other members and management of the organisation.
Productive conflicts are the seeds from which any and all meaningful relationships grow. This in itself requires the team to be able to talk about the problem at hand without any kind of personal attacks and instead focuses on what is best for the team. This allows team members to feel comfortable sharing their true opinions and thoughts without any fear that they may get reprised or criticised. The leaders themselves need to be careful not to try to resolve a conflict with temporary harmony and solution in order to protect certain members of the
Effective leaders must learn to embrace conflict because it is an inexorable part of human interactions and without intervention, it seldom finds its own productive solutions (Myatt, 2012). The failure to address conflict early on will likely lead to workplace acrimony, disengagement and poor communication and cooperation (Myatt, 2012). The story of the conflict between Cindy and Dr. Jones is an excellent case to analyze the elements of conflict and conflict management.
Introduction Conflict is unpleasant, but inevitable throughout life. In any situation involving two or people, conflict may arise. Conflict can be defined as, “any situation in which incompatible goals, cognitions, or emotions within or between individuals or groups lead to opposition or antagonistic interaction” (Learning Team Toolkit, 2004, pp 242-243). People come from different backgrounds and live through different life experiences therefore, even when working towards a common goal, they will not always agree. Major conflict that is not dealt with can devastate a team or organization (Make Conflict Work, 2008).
This movie digs deep into the role of high school stereotyping, but still keeps a warm comedic feel to it. At the start of the movie, each character has there own “clique” they are apart of. While in detention the characters
