Kevin Herrera Period 4 Government 10/21/15 Mr. Decker EMT Research Project One of my prefered careers is to be an EMT. This stands for Emergency Medical Technician. The five jobs that are related to this are Health Specialties Teachers, Postsecondary, Ambulance drivers, Attendants and Biological Technicians. The rate of employment for emergency medical technicians and paramedics is projected to grow an approximate 23 percent from 2012 to 2022. This is much faster than the average for all other occupations. Due to the growth in middle-aged people as well as the elderly will lead to an increase in the number of age-related health emergencies, like heart attacks or strokes. In effect, this will cause a greater demand for EMTs and paramedic services. The annual wage for an EMT starts at an approximate $31,020 dollars. Leaving the monthly salary at an estimated $2,226 dollars. In addition to salary, the benefits of the job include time off with pay, medical insurance, dental as well as vision and eye insurance. In addition to the benefits are short and long term insurance. The other advantages of being an EMT is that you get to help people when in their times of need and at times even get to save people's lives. …show more content…

The health career that I am most intrigued with is a certified registered nurse anesthesist or for short, CRNA. In the United States, a certified registered nurse anesthesist is an advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) who has acquired graduate-level education and board certification in anesthesia. Certified registered nurse anesthesists provide anesthesia in collaboration with surgeons, anesthesiologists, dentists, podiatrists, and other qualified healthcare professionals. Certified registered nurse anesthesists are the primary providers of anesthesia care in rural America, enabling healthcare facilities in these medically underserved areas to offer obstetrical, surgical, pain management and trauma stabilization services. In some states, certified registered nurse anesthesists are
Qualities such as fast decision making skills, compassion, and very aware of details. If an athlete is injured it is a trainers job to decide what the best way to help them recover would be and look for the small details of the injury. Along with these personal traits the health care worker needs to be compassionate and respectful to the athletes wishes and the care they need to require. The trainer is expected to be able to move quick in an emergency and apply the care in a timely manner. Being able to recognize and evaluate the injury is very important to this career.
Medical field is filled with different varieties of professions. The medical field is health professions by doctors, nurses and other allied health care services that have a passion for helping others. Since high school I always wanted to do something in the medical field. Now that I have taken a few steps into deciding my career, I want to become a medical assistant. A medical assistant are multi-skilled health care professional who are highly trained to perform administrative or clinical duties in an ambulatory or immediate rare settings.
DId you know that no medical degree is required to be an EMT? Neither did I, until I read Ambulance Girl. In this memoir, Jane Stern tells of her experiences becoming a certified EMT at the age of fifty-two. The beginning half of the book details her training, while the second half is comprised of tales from “the field”. Additionally, Stern discusses her struggles with anxiety and depression.
Trainings are not only beneficial to the citizens, but the department as well. Instructional time is justified by the degree of need for the training. For example, there is a high need for high performance CPR training because it is a skill used every day in the department, however the skill needs drastic improvement to meet new AHA standards. Because the department is so large, about 1,100 employees, most trainings are done asynchronously via online instruction or at the station level with your shift supervisor. This keeps staffing to a minimal and allows for less tangible items, therefore reducing cost to participate.
Patient lifting, turning and assistance may also be required. As a sonographer there is endless opportunity for career advancement, expansion, or even change of career within the medical diagnostic field. According to the Bureau of Labor and Statistics, the projected outlook for employment of diagnostic medical sonographers is projected to grow 17 percent by 2026, which is above average for all occupations. The unemployment rate is 1.1% for this field (Diagnostic Medical Sonographers, 2018). People will never stop ageing, getting sick, and deteriorating which means these positions in health care will always be
Unfortunately I only got through day one of the program because I injured my toe which has sidelined me. The day I did of the program was very long and took approximately 3 hours and 15 minutes. I will likely make adjustments to the training program to make it shorter. The 21 day program felt very productive. I did a lot of challenging drills which were pushing my skills to the limit.
For my career, I am going with CNA, EKG, and Phlebotomy. The reason I picked these for my career is because I like to help people. Knowing I can make a difference in the world by doing something as simple as helping a patient eat or take their blood for a blood test they need done is amazing knowing you’re the one helping them. Not many people realize how much work a nurse does for a living. We have to make sure that we don’t fall behind on work because it will mess the other nurses up.
(Learn.org 2016) they begin an extensive training course that can range from 800 to over 1,500 hours. The course allows for a person to significantly increase their mastery in basic skills learned during the basic EMT course as well as increase knowledge in Advanced Life Support (ALS) which include topics such as pharmacology and toxicology. Lectures will generally be presented by the medical director in charge of the particular institution teaching ALS or possibly a doctor, nurse, or paramedic instructor. Clinical sessions are conducted in a similar manner with the student being supervised by a doctor or nurse generally in a hospital setting.
Nurses need the ability of fast critical thinking skills and observation of declining signs and symptoms. Nurses also must have the ability to educate
The second key aspect related to expertise, the nurses must have technical skills in order to provide effective and safe care. The third aspect mentioned that nurses must have communicative capabilities. The nurses serve as spokespersons for patients who are often in vulnerable positions. The nurses are easily accessible and can act as a link between the patient and other professions.
You must be able to work harmoniously with the different personalities, including patients, physicians, and other co-workers. • Be Adaptable. You must be able to adapt different roles ranging from assistant to medical and administrative duties.
