European Union (EU) is an international organization that consist of 28 European countries, and governing common economic, social, and security policy. EU policies have been established, and used to protect and help the EU members, as well as ensure the competitiveness of the members in the global market (Avans, n.d.). There are several impacts of EU policies, which in terms of employment, exchange rate, environment, and so on.
Employment policy is a list of policies that define the employment. The purpose of employment policy is to achieve a high level of employment, and social rights and conditions for workers across the European Union. UK, which is one of the EU members, has to comply with the employment policy. M&S, which operate in UK, has to comply with the employment policy, by recruiting young individuals, older employees, low-skilled employees, and legal migrants (EUR, n.d.). Thus, the participation in the labour market can be increased through employment policy. Besides, the advantage of employment policy is developed a skilled workforce. UK should extend the capacity of education and training system, so that M&S can provide better education and training to the employees, in order to improve the skills of employees. The productivity of employees can also be increased, when their skills is improved (DFA, n.d.). Thus, a skilled workforce can be developed through the implementation of employment policy. EU environmental policy covers a wide area from water quality and wildlife protection to tackle industrial pollution and climate change. The purpose of environment policy is to prevent negative environmental impact. The advantage of environment policy is protected the natural environment. M&S should comply with the environment policy, by preventing waste. M&S should not produce goods and services at a large quantity. For example, M&S should not produce large quantity of furniture, which required to cut down more trees and use more woods for production. When M&S is unable to sell off all the furniture, waste will be produced. M&S is then wasted the natural resources and created huge negative environmental impact. M&S should also encourage customers to use recycled bags, by not providing plastic bags for the customers to use (Thompson, n.d.).
