Welcome to Eagle Radio “Welcome to Eagle Radio” came echoing out of the phone from a syrupy sweet feminine toned voice. That was it, the phone call I had been waiting for. I had gotten the job! Wow, I’m going to be a star! I thought as I hung up the phone with images of the glitz and glam of Johnny Dare, Wolfman Jack, Casey Kasem, and Delilah running wild through my mind. I was to come dressed to impress the following morning for a tour and to fill out the official documentation. The happy dance ensued. I awoke with a song in my heart. I jumped out of bed and headed to the shower giddy like a child on Christmas morning. Most had the average clutter of computer, phone, tape dispenser, and an array of paper documents scattered sloppily around. As we passed through he introduced me to each person we walked by. Each cordially shook my hand and welcomed me. All of them said the same thing “Welcome to Eagle.” Their words sounded sincere but their eyes twinkled mischievously. Week after week, I continued to grin and bare it until finally, I reached my last week. As I finally sat down at my last meeting of my last day, I listened to our boss talk about all the positive feedback the camp was getting from both parents and campers. The majority of the girls who came had had the time of their lives. In the end, that was just what made all our suffering worthwhile. I sat and looked around at all the familiar faces I had come to know so well in so little time.
It all came down to this. All of the long hours of hard work, all leading up to this one final practice. Next Saturday the Liberty High School Marching Band would be competing at the FootHill Band Review and every member had to give it their all if we wanted to have a successful practice. It was a brisk October night, the leaves on the trees were turning a beautiful auburn, and the sun disappearing into a golden sea behind Mount Diablo. As we got into our formation in the parking, I felt the brass slowly turning my hands numb as I held my trumpet.

Flicking up my shades and lowering my headphones, I raised my hooves in the air and cheered to the huge crowd with a smirky grin. Then I spoke in the microphone. “What’s up Spotlight‽ How we doing tonight‽”

“Brrrring!” rang the alarm. I woke up, turned the alarm off, and buried myself under the covers. They were as soft as a kitten’s fur, and as warm as the air from a heater. After a long hug from my blanket, I finally got hot and went to use the bathroom.

The pristine marble floor, the distant smell of concessions practically beckoning me to them, the red velvet carpeted stairs leading higher floors, the hushed murmurs of the crowd waiting in their seats.
