While according to Anderson, “marriage is about attaching a man and a woman to each other as husband and wife to be father and mother to any children their sexual union produce” (2013, pp. 1-2). Marriage is legally defined as an agreement by which a man and a woman enter into a legal relationship with each other by which creates and imposes mutual rights and duties. Al-Quran is the revelation to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) from Allah, which contains the commands and prohibitions for the Muslims in life. One of the commandments for the Muslims is marriage. Muslims are prohibited to commit adultery and in order to overcome this problem, Allah had commanded the couple to enter into a lawful relationship that is marriage. In marriage, there is a protection of chastity as commanded by Allah. In order to protect chastity, Islam orders the Muslim to cover the aurah for women and lower the gaze. Other than that, Islam prescribes a severe punishment for adulterers and fornicators. This shows that adultery and fornication are prohibited in Islam. Therefore, the youth that is capable and affordable to get married is encouraged to get married at the early age. This supported by the hadith of the Prophet narrated by Al- Bukhari and Muslim, where the Prophet said,” O youth! The Prophet said in a hadith, “Nikah is my Sunnah. He who shuns my Sunnah is not of me” (Shamreeza Riaz, 2013, p. 264). From the hadith, it clearly shows that Islam strongly encouraged the idea of marriage. As in Islam, relationship a man and a woman outside marriage are prohibited. Through marriage, one can fulfilled their sexual desire and desire to have children legitimately. Therefore, marriage is essential for protecting the lineage of a person. Protection of lineage is one of the objectives of the Syariah; Maqasid Syariah. In Islam, lineage is important because Islam recognizes and respect to where one comes from. In other words, one may suffer great implications if he or she did not know his or her origin. This can be illustrated in the case of distribution of inheritance and marriage. A daughter cannot marry until and unless she gets permission from her wali, which is her biological father. Therefore, Islam encourages marriage and prohibits adultery as it will cause so many problems. Besides that, marriage is encouraged in Islam for the sake of preserving humans’ offspring. Syariah legitimizes marriage and reproduction and for the sake of protecting it, Syariah forbade adultery and assigned a legal punishment for whoever commits it.
