What is Earthquake
Earthquakes are natural disasters that conclude to a widespread destruction and loss to the human life. An earthquakes effects differs on magnitude and power. Earthquakes occur frequently around the world, except in places that occur rarely. The demolition of the countries and cities is one example of the effects of an Earthquake
An Earthquake is the result of a unexpected discharge of energy in the earth crust due to precise reasons which creates seismic waves
The seismic movement of an zone refers to the frequency, type and size of the earthquake that has occurred over a period of time
For example: if you throw a stone ina pond of water, a vibration

About 100,000 of these can be felt. Minor earthquakes occur nearly constantly around the world in places like California and Alaska in the U.S., as well as in El Salvador, Mexico, Guatemala, Chile, Peru, Indonesia, Iran, Pakistan, the Azores in Portugal, Turkey, New Zealand, Greece, Italy, India, Nepal and Japan, but earthquakes can occur almost anywhere, including Downstate New York, England, and Australia. Larger earthquakes occur less frequently, the relationship being exponential; for example, roughly ten times as many earthquakes larger than magnitude 4 occur in a particular time period than earthquakes larger than magnitude 5. In the (low seismicity) United Kingdom, for example, it has been calculated that the average recurrences are: an earthquake of 3.7–4.6 every year, an earthquake of 4.7–5.5 every 10 years, and an earthquake of 5.6 or larger every 100 years. This is an example of the Gutenberg–Richter …show more content…
Keep away from weak portion of the building and false ceiling. If you are outside: Avoid high buildings , walls , power lines and other objects that could fall and create block. Don’t run through streets. If possible , move on to an open area away from hazard including trees.
Major Earthquakes
One of the largest earthquakes that was recorder was 1556 Shaanxi earthquake, which arose on 23 January 1556 in the Shaanxi province found in China. 830,000 people died during the incident. Most houses in the sphere have been demolished, dwellings stamped out of loess hillsides and many victims were killed when these buildings collapsed. Tangshan earthquake in 1976, which killed approximately 655,000 people, was the most lethal in the 20th century.
The 1960 Chilean shaking is the largest recorded earthquake measured by a seismograph, succeeding the magnitude of 9 on scale. Its disturbance site was near Canete, Chile. The energy that was created by the earthquake was nearly as twice as the next most dominant earthquake, the Good Friday earthquake. Top 10 largest earthquakes were all mega thrust, however, of these the deadliest earthquake in the history of shaking was the Indian Ocean
Earthquakes. They shake buildings, they wobble structures, they dismantle even the most stable construction. They leave people without homes, destroy possessions. The San Francisco earthquake in 1906 left at least half of the population homeless.
Between the North and pacific plates and the Queen Charlotte-Fairweather fault system Juneau has a high risk of serious earthquakes. Juneau frequently has multiple earthquakes a year. Last year Juneau went through over fourteen earthquakes and this year the city has only had six (Earthquake Track, 2015). Most of the earthquakes in Juneau are between two and four magnitude earthquakes. Juneau also has a history of serious earthquakes.
The History has gone as far back as 1836, and all the earthquakes range from a 5.6- 7.8. Currently the 1906 Earthquake was the biggest being a 7.8. The People of San Francisco recovered quickly after the fire, and by 1909 all of the damaged buildings were rebuilt taller and stronger. Although about 28,000 buildings were damaged or destroyed by the 1906 Earthquake and Fire, about 20,500 brand new buildings replaced them and started the heart of San Francisco.
The impact of the New Madrid earthquake, although did not result in a lot of fatalities or destruction, left lasting effects on the land and those involved. Many did not know what to do, and it caused terror and fear in those who were ill prepared for the earthquake. It remains the largest earthquake in North America, and will always be remembered in the hearts of the Americans.
It was assigned a magnitude of 9.5 by the United States Geological Survey. It is referred to as the “Great Chilean Earthquake” and the “1960 Valdivia Earthquake.” Other earthquakes in recorded history may have been larger;however, this is the largest earthquake that has occurred since accurate estimates of magnitude became possible in the early 1900’s (“The Great Chilean Earthquake”). Earthquakes are very dangerous, and if you live in an earthquake bound area, you always need to be prepared for destruction. The San Andreas is 800 miles long and a myth about it is that one day half of California will break off into the ocean, some believe it, others
Imagine it’s April 18, 1906, just another day at your work in San francisco. Suddenly the grounds turns to water beneath you and you fall on your back. Your used to the occasional earthquake but this earthquake will ruin your entire life. For this was the biggest earthquake in all of San francisco history. SF Tourism Tips says, “The San Francisco 1906 Earthquake was one of the largest and most significant in Northern California.
Recently, on January 7th 2016, there was an earthquake caused by fracking, in Oklahoma, where earthquakes are rare. This particular quake was a 4.8 on the Richter Scale, which is the highest ever recorded. It occurred in the center of the state, was felt all over. Also, within the past week, there have been more than 20 quakes all over the state. in recent years, since 2011, earthquakes have occurred more and more often.
Over 300,000 people were killed and some 1.5 million left to live on the streets. The earthquake was measured to be the worst this region had seen in over 200 years. After
According to John Claque, the motion is curling the edge of the North America plate upwards, much the same way a rug would buckle if you pushed on one edge. This creates a major strain on the fault line until eventually, the north America plate "elastically bounces back", causing the mega thrust and creating the tsunami".
The earthquakes intensity was measured at a magnitude of 7.9 on the present Richter scale (The Great 1906, 4). This earthquake was an extremely vigorous magnitude that would have killed approximately fifthteen hundred to forty five hundred people and injure fifty thousand (House, 51). This was not the first earthquake in San Francisco. 1864, 1898, and 1900 were years of earthquakes striking but not as strong as 1906 (San Francisco of 1906, 1). Ten million California residents who lived closely from the major fault lines could have been in endangered in many extreme ways. (House, 56).
How do earthquakes form? Earth quakes form when two earth blocks slide past each other. When they slip past each other it is called a fault. Earth quakes
These two plates push and shove each other causing small tremors throughout which can cause landslides, volcanic eruptions and once in a couple years, quakes with devastating results. The strongest earthquake recorded occurred in 1991 with a measure of 7.6 on the Richter scale. This earthquake left 4 dead and buildings as well as bridges and road were completely destroyed. If another Earthquake occurs, the coastal cities would be the most affected ones as they are closer to the plates.
The earthquake of 2010 was a 7.0 on the Richter Scale. This large earthquake caused the death of 230,000 people. This was due to poor building structure and little warning. There were too many bodies to move and so few people who were capable of moving them (due to injuries) that the bodies would just be piled up on roads and in city squares. As a result of the earthquake, a total of 10,000 children were left orphaned.
Informative Speech Outline Speaker’s Name: Luz Singh Speech Topic: Safety; Before, During and After an Earthquake General Purpose: To Inform Central Idea (Main Goal): Help the audience prepare for a massive earthquake. A. Introduction Attention Grabber: I would like to begin by recalling the earthquake of a magnitude of 7.1 in the Ritcher Scale, that struck the center of Mexico this past 19th of September. The Tohoku Earthquake was the most powerful earthquake recorded to have hit Japan. The earthquake was a magnitude 9.0 off the coasts of Japan that occurred at 2:46pm on Friday 11 March 2011, which triggered a powerful tsunami that reached the height up to 10.4 meters. A Japanese National Police Agency reported 15,889 deaths, 6,152 injured, and 2,601 people missing, 127,290 buildings totally collapse, 272,788 buildings half collapse, and another 747,989 buildings partially damaged. The Tohoku earthquake and tsunami caused severe structural damage in northeastern Japan, including heavy damage to roads, railways and dams, not to mention fires in many areas. It was the toughest and the most difficult crisis in Japan after the World War 2 leaving
